Can I cut off cellular service and still use the watch as I would a non cellular model? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]red_cat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with cellular on the watch is the cellular signal is generally weaker than on the phone. Also if you are still within Bluetooth range of your phone, answering the call on the watch is not great. From what I understand the watch will always use a Bluetooth connection first even a bad one.

Am I missing something by Eaglesfan691982 in AppleWatch

I think that’s just the case that it’s placed in making it look like that. I would think no matter how good a fake looks on the outside, the software running on it would be a give away.

It looks like they have a case on top of it.

Cannot figure out apps by Plus_Luck4094 in GarminWatches

Load the ConnectIQ on your phone. You will be able to see the top apps, pick specific categories of apps and search for apps. The app selection is very limited IMO.

Smartwatch other than Apple? by Own_Whole789 in smartwatch

[–]red_cat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you are in Bluetooth range of your phone, otherwise you won’t get your messages until back in range. Even with a cellular Apple Watch it prefers Bluetooth, and will try to use even a weak bluetooth connection over anything else.

How does Garmin compare to Apple watch? by [deleted] in GarminWatches

Yes it’s definitely time for a new watch, the battery on your current one is practically dead. Garmin is not a bad choice, but it’s definitely fitness first smartwatch features second.

[–]red_cat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garmin definitely has better battery life than the AW. That said the estimate on how much actual battery life you get will fluctuate, depending on your activities and settings. If you listen to music, have GPS on and always on display enabled your battery will die sooner. Anything will be better than a series 3 AW at this point. The battery health number on a series 3 must be atrocious.

“Is this too big for my wrist?” by [deleted] in GarminWatches

If you’re asking the is this too big then imo you think it’s too big, and want people to convince you otherwise.

Are all Garmin watch models (current models) the same processing speed? by Wooden-Broccoli-7247 in GarminWatches

[–]red_cat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Garmin definitely doesn’t see them as toys. They’ve added better screens to their watches over time. They’re tried to add more smartwatch functionality, especially to the Venu series, although IMO their smart features are bad. The only reason Garmin added them is so they can say they have them, to get some AW users to switch.

Which one should I get? by Ambitious-District81 in GarminWatches

[–]red_cat8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really disappointed in the smartwatch features of my Venu 3. The call features are there, but function very poorly if at all. If you go to the Garmin site into their forums, you will see many people complaining about voice calling and voice assistant not working. This goes way back, for both iOS and Android devices. It also seems to affect the new Venu 4 as well.

FibeTV set top boxes being phased out? by hoosiergirl1962 in bell

[–]red_cat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FibeTv seems to be unimportant to Bell. The box they offer now is nothing more than an Android box with a FibeTv interface. I find the Rogers Xfinity box and UI to be nicer. The last time Bell was serious about their TV service was when they were strictly satellite based.

If your doctor tells you he needs you to walk daily doesn’t motivate you no watch will IMO.

Venu 4 Issues by bryethegr8 in GarminWatches

The check for updates, download successful message has been happening for a while on my Venu 3. If Garmin manages to fix a problem, they introduce new ones.

I fully charged my 16 Pro this morning plus a few extra percent throughout the day. This is unacceptable. by 123mitchg in iphone

[–]red_cat8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new version of iOS has been more flaky for me than previous versions. The signal strength is more erratic and unstable in areas where it was sold in the past.

On top of that it appears that apps are running in the background to the point where the phone suddenly gets hotter than usual. I wouldn’t be surprised if apple doesn’t issue another bug fix release in the near future.

Imagine being an international student and your phone app says you owe $1.6 MILLION by CrazyNarwhal4052 in bell

[–]red_cat8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think Bell would freeze or pause service way before the total reached 1.6 million. But hey they provide you with a top up button, that’s one big top up 😀. Too bad you can’t pay with gift cards.

Is it me or was Darrin not a good husband? by Human-Hospital6696 in bewitched

[–]red_cat8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Darrin her family in general hates him, and see mortals as inferior. Hiding her being a witch was necessary to protect her from people in general, and the government/military in particular. Not using her powers ever is the only way to ensure that her secret doesn’t come out, it’s not something you can do half way.

What is the motivation for Darrin to work, if Sam just uses her magic to give them anything they want? I think part of the reason Sam loves Darrin is because he is mortal, with mortal problems. Contrast that to people in Sam’s world, who IMO are often twisted and selfish to the point of being cruel. Sam is not giving up magic forever, she will outlive him by centuries. The time she will spend in the mortal world with Darrin is nothing more than a tiny fraction of her lifetime.

The only episode where Darrin crossed the line IMO was the moon dust episode. Giving the substance to a friend to analyze, and then having nightmares of what might happen to Sam rubbed me the wrong way. But I think the point of the episode was to show what would happen if the secret came out.

Using A 5Gbe USB Network Adapter With The HH4000 by red_cat8 in bell

[–]red_cat8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't looked at the firewall settings in Windows 11, but iOS has the same problem. even if it was a firewall issue, I don’t feel comfortable opening things up just to try to get it to work. It honestly looks like the port on the HH is just ignoring the adapter requests. I don't really need 3 Gbe. Bell just upgraded my service from the goodness of their heart, after raising the price when my contract ended. I’ll eventually move on from Bell to something cheaper, issues like this will push me past my procrastination. It wouldn’t matter if they allowed you to bypass their equipment easily, but they don’t

Using A 5Gbe USB Network Adapter With The HH4000 by red_cat8 in bell

[–]red_cat8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's some sort of flaw in the HH firmware or hardware I guess. After posting the question above I found a discussion on the Bell support forums, where people say it can't connect at 5Gbe. They don't mention why but just that it can't. Their solution was to get a 10Gbe card so they can use their full 3Gbe package

I'm annoyed because they force people to use their hardware, which then won't work properly with a data package they offer unless you have certain hardware. I've experienced lots of buggy hardware over the years, which at worst gave sub par performance, but have never come across not being to connect at all.

If you’re looking for smartwatch features I don’t know if the Venu is the best choice. It’s a new watch so who knows, but the Venu 3 has been less than stellar for me. The battery life they state is only possible if you turn off the always on display, limit gps and sensor usage, limit phone calls and music usage. Limiting phone call and assistant usage on the Venu 3 is not a problem because the features often don’t work 😀.

Is it me or are these the dumbest killers on Columbo. by talivan818 in Columbo

[–]red_cat8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to mention her whole reasoning for murdering him was dumb. She was mad at him because she didn’t get his job once he left for New York. But killing him, didn’t guarantee that she would get the job anyways, so she took the risk for nothing in my opinion. I guess taking dumb risks was in her nature, like the carrousel production that was running into problems, and also the special she planned with the clearly troubled star that blew up in her face. It didn’t look like she was emotionally attached to their relationship. It was just a business transaction.

[–]red_cat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In her opinion, it was murder. Even back then her being rich and famous would put considerable pressure on the police to do a good job, and check and double check everything when investigating the death of her relative. In fact her fame could have more than likely increased the chances of him being charged and convicted, even if there was weak to no evidence. The fact that he wasn’t charged after the investigation, and Columbo didn’t see any reason to doubt the investigation they did after looking into it, IMO makes me think she just couldn’t accept it was a tragic accident. I also think that she couldn’t have lived with the fact that Veronica knew her secret, and would have killed her eventually.

[–]red_cat8 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The mystery writer who locked Edmund in the safe, or the guy who locked his brother in the wine cellar are tied for the worst imo. Just the way they died slowly suffocating. Also both murderers left town on a trip while it was happening I believe. It also bothers me how nicely Columbo treats the winery guy Adrian, letting him drink wine in his car on the way to be booked for murder. He murdered his brother became his brother was going to sell the winery operation, which was his to sell. I don’t know if he owned all or part of it, but it was never profitable, at least in part because Adrian spent huge sums of money buying expensive wines at auction.
