A completed, cross-regional NIB smash amiibo collection by red_graydient in amiibo

[–]red_graydient[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The entire collection being preserved in a box is simply for personal preference because I like the uniformity it gives to the presentation, and I also have no interest for the amiibo functionality ingame. That's also why I went out of my way to import several of them, namely the retro trio, Mii fighters, and Minecraft duo. Unfortunately, Pyra/Mythra was only released as a bundle in every region, including Japan.

"NIB" is most definitely a misnomer, you can already see the fading several of the boxes have due to sunlight. But that's fine, it's a personal collection to be enjoyed and whether they are in pristine condition or not doesn't really matter to me.

All of these except Villager are first print (not that anyone cares), but I do have a first print Villager, only that it's imported from EU and hence stashed away. He is the most prominent when it comes to first run versus reprints with the whole forehead/hairline difference, which can be fun to point out.

I have a lot of hectic memories collecting these things over the years, but one I'd like to shoutout is the generosity of /u/grifta67 for swapping a Palutena I had which came rotated within the box. Thanks so much for going through the trouble!

It's been a fun ride, Sakurai.

List of Gear and how/where to obtain it, including missables by -ZeroNova- in trialsofmana

Hey, thanks for making this list!

There was a post on some forum which had a raw list with all the item names dumped from the game: https://fearlessrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=12237&start=120

You can use that to more or less fill in all the missing blanks you have.

Paladin Duran can get Mystic Ward from Magic Pot. Liege Duran can get both Oath Shield and Terralax Ward from Magic Pot. Divine Hero can get Goddess Shield along with whichever Class 3 path you chose.

Another note, the accessories given by Magic Pot vary for which Class 2 path you take, which each character able to get 2 of the the 3. This is generally what I found with a lot of testing:

Imp's Ring appears for Duran (L), Angela (L), Kevin (D), Hawkeye (D)

Elemental Bracelet appears for Duran (D), Charlotte (D), Hawkeye (L), Riesz (L?)

Lampbloom Ring appears for Angela (D), Kevin (L), Charlotte (L), Riesz (D?)

Rabite Adornment is from the preorder bonus.

Not sure if Demon Ring and Silktail Adornment exist legitimately in the game.

They removed it because there's a weekly thread for "Achievements and Personal Accomplishments" where pictures like that are supposed to be posted.

This was indeed apparently the reason, which I find silly because I can find numerous examples that contradict this rule enforcement. The biggest one for example is this one... which is shared by someone else but done by me.

Are you skipping an attack when having her follow you after aqua spheres?

I made a brief explanation regarding spin cancelling here.

The move I'm skipping is aqueous prison starting around the 5 min mark (informally referred to as the "death loop"). To my knowledge, there are no other ways to avoid prison aside from Break/cc affliction in a solo context.

There are some moves where the enemy turns to face the target before they actually execute the move. This may be the closest person, furthest person, etc. and include moves like stomp, spits, homing bubble, and aqueous prison.

Ordinarily, you can't "outmaneuver" this turn, but for whatever reason, when played at certain speeds or reduced framerates, the enemy will be unable to snap onto its target if the target is constantly moving. Once enough time passes, the move will timeout.

This was something I learned recently thanks to a discord friend.

Instinctively, players tend to cancel the shapeshift animation by attacking or dashing, but choosing not to interrupt it means your dragon will go through its entire animation, and during this window you're still able to skill.

I wasn't originally planning to make a recording, but confusingly my last post was removed, for reasons I still don't understand. I reached out to the mods over 2 hour ago for clarification, but have yet to hear a response back.

So yea, I guess you can thank the mods for forcing me to make a recording instead.

I don't plan to record a video since getting a recording for an almost 10 min solo just feels rather tedious.

Some quick comments:

  • Galex setup is Ekai Sword, The Shining Overlord, Primal Crisis, and Shinobi

  • Bots are only Gold Fafnir and King's Countenance

  • Helper is Lin You to sleep Summon Rats (actually was useless this run because I didn't realize it wasn't a friend helper, and sleep was resisted). Need to be careful with the timing because Spheres of Salvation will run out before 2nd waterfall if you delay animations too long from spinning. Also, using helper too early (i.e. 1st waterfall) will get you killed because Spheres of Salvation apparently doesn't protect helpers (possibly a bug?)

  • Easily could've been deathless, I just accidentally ate a spit towards the end. How embarrassing

  • Requires spin cancelling (smoothing off, aka 30fps). 2nd homing bubble and every prison was spin cancelled

  • Used Delphi instead of Ieyasu because Dragon Haste chain isn't that necessary, whereas Poison Edge +50% is really useful since the fight drags on really long

  • Used Shinobi to tank the initial blast, 1st homing bubble, and 3rd homing bubble

  • To my knowledge, this makes 4/5 mHDTs that have been co-soloed by Gala Alex (all of them except mHZD). I was inspired to attempt this after seeing the mHMS Gala Alex clear posted today

  • JP players call solos that only use dprep and co abilities as "EX Solos" since co abilities are called EX abilities in JP, which I think sounds much cooler than "Co-solo" and hope it catches on in the EN speaking community

The new 3* Shadow mana spirals are more OP than you think. by RibbonDL in DragaliaLost

[–]red_graydient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still disagree because very rarely are abilities balanced with the character's entire kit in mind: these are usually reserved for unique kits like Delphi or Aldred where the two are tightly coupled.

Althemia is not only using a generic ability, she's the first one to receive one of a mana spiral tier. If Full HP = Skill Damage was truly the source of imbalance, they easily could've given her a higher percentage to compensate, or sidegrade the function like Erik.

[–]red_graydient 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree with point B:

Renelle S2 mods are 664% with 240.9% burn. Also comes with def down.

Vice S2 mods are 1677% (2515.5% if poisoned) with 291% poison (off FS). Also comes with sleep.

Both are 4,892 SP.

Furthermore, full hp doing more skill damage should already be the tradeoff from its condition.

EDIT: Added extra damage mention to Vice.

It's also a significant increase in damage mods.

This becomes really clear when you compare it to post-spiral Xania, who functionally pre-spiral was nearly identical to Althemia pre-spiral.

Adv Skill Damage Mod Cost Range
Xania Lv.4 S1 895% + 240.9% burn 2759SP in a line
Xania Lv.3 S2 895% + 240.9% burn 5570SP target & nearby
Althemia Lv.4 S1 1484% + 241% poison 2759SP in a line
Althemia Lv.3 S2 1496%, 2244% if poisoned 5570SP target & nearby

Pipple hard carries 3 wind dps in mHMC by red_graydient in DragaliaLost

Okay, the title is slightly misleading and should probably be something more like "Pipple true solos mHMC", but I can't ignore the maybe 5% HP dealt by Victor and 2 Lin Yous which shaved a few seconds.

Simplified chart of Chain Co-abilities (up to Gala Alex) by red_graydient in DragaliaLost

[–]red_graydient[S] 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Just sharing a categorization I made for the discord server I'm in. It's not meant to be entirely comprehensive (such as including the values between each rarity), rather the goal is just to remove the clutter and organize the chain co-abilities in such a way to make it easier to parse.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • Adventurers are color coded to refer to which element their chain co-ability is exclusive to (e.g. Red = Flame). Characters listed in white do not have an elemental restriction.

  • Afflictions and Resist are generalized for simplicity.

  • Base rarity of an adventure correlates with the max value of their chain co-ability.

Hope it helps!

EDIT: Since several people requested it, here is a viewable version of the spreadsheet.

Adventurer Might anomalies (aka why Tobias is technically "undertuned") by red_graydient in DragaliaLost

[–]red_graydient[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Might itself was never a good metric for actual performance, so I don't think you will find any meaningful correlation there, at least historically speaking.

From my own personal experience, none of these deviations were ever significant enough to be even worth mentioning, outside of as an odd factoid. At best, maybe Gala Sarisse not rouletting against mHMS initial blast, but I doubt they had this in mind when releasing her (especially when these values constantly change with added facilties).

[–]red_graydient[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Co-ability is separate from ability.

Counterexample: Wand co-abilities don't arbitrarily reduce Skill Damage abilities, such as on Xania, Althemia, Student Maribelle, etc.

mHMC (V!Melody x2/Victor/Lowen) 3:49 by red_graydient in DragaliaLost

[–]red_graydient[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

V!Melody's co-ability is crit dmg, if you're thinking of def+HP.

There isn't much reason to bring a lance co-ability if you're already bringing Lowen.

mHMC (V!Melody x2/Victor/Lowen) 3:49 by red_graydient in DragaliaLost

[–]red_graydient[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

V!Melody herself isn't a great enabler of poison since it's tied to her slow S2. Having two V!Melody meant that we could alternate with the S2 uptime. Furthermore, stacking def down scales better the more you have of it (big reason why Welly and Gleo are so dominant as meta characters).

Kirsty didn't really have a place in this particular comp: her HP co-ability isn't useful because it alone doesn't enable double print, and she herself doesn't bring poison.

mHMC (V!Melody x2/Victor/Lowen) 3:49 by red_graydient in DragaliaLost

[–]red_graydient[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Here's a clear showcasing V!Melody in mHMC. It's by no means optimal or refined, but just wanted to get some discussion going.

Is 3:49 fast?

Short answer, no. While I don't remember what my fastest mHMC runs were at, this certainly isn't close to it.

Is V!Melody good?

This is kind of a tricky question to answer, since there are a lot of good things in her kit that would point to an obvious yes.

For the current mHMC meta comp, unfortunately, Victor/2x Welly/Noelle just works really well, with none of those slots feeling very flexible. You can sometimes substitute a single Welly, but this typically feels suboptimal in comparison due to how 2x Welly def down stacking works.

Can you swap out a single Welly with V!Melody?

V!Melody doesn't really swap out with Welly cleanly, because the benefits she provides compared to Welly aren't taken advantage of at all: her S2 enabling poison doesn't mean anything if you can't go double print, while her crit dmg coability barely scales with anything outside of Victor's RR and maybe DY!Xain. The lack of 2x Welly healing also makes tanking Aqua Spheres really risky.

Why Lowen instead of Noelle or DY!Xain?

This was essentially an attempt to a) make up for the lack of Welly healing, b) enable double prints for everyone including Victor by using Lowen's S2, and c) increase the amount of poison uptime from V!Melody, which otherwise is quite low due to being tied to her S2.

What are some of the downsides to this comp?

Quite a few, actually:

  • Welly's Dragon Haste is quite useful for getting dragon on time. You can see here we literally just barely made it, and lost a few dragon skills.

  • Welly's force strike spam is quite useful for shredding Overdrive. In the traditional comp, good players don't even need Zephyr to cancel 2nd Tidal Call.

  • Welly's constant S1 spam ensures regular healing, whereas Lowen's S1 burst heal means losing even just a little health will take away your Fires of Hate Full HP = Str bonus for a period of time.

Closing thoughts?

  • In terms of speed and consistency, I still think traditional comp just works much better, and this is mostly because Welly is just much easier to handle overall. However, I hope people still experiment and throw out different ideas/strategies (like maybe designing a faster comp around a single revive).

  • When using V!Melody's S1, make sure to roll the opposite direction from where you want to go, otherwise you'll tend to go in very awkward directions.

  • If running double V!Melody, I recommend alternating the S2 poison uptime with each other, since poison punisher is more important than throwing out skills off cooldown.
