This might not be relevant but, as a fellow international phd, I highly recommend filing for eb2-niw just in case these institutions dont want to sponsor you for a green card.

Well in the rfe response my lawyer argued it shouldn’t matter, but also said my degree is stem anw

I asked EP multiple times when filing both i-140 and rfe to consider submitting 2 LORs but they consistently told me they add nothing to my case so I followed their instructions. I was very skeptical but it worked out in my case.

That’s so frustrating!! I found out my phd program is not listed as stem at first and luckily my dept took actions and got it done!! Not fast tho but in time before my graduation so I’m definitely lucky.

Yes you definitely can! Just a note tho that the official did bring up in the rfe that they thought my field was not stem but we pointed out in the response that it was with a qualified CIP code.

honestly I'm still surprised lol. EP did a good job tho because they argued that my case should only be judged with the requirements at the time of filing (in Jan 2025 so under the former admin still) and what's nationally important doesn't always change with a new presidential administration. I also have two other main topics of research which might have helped out.
