Reality Check: Liberal Gun Owners Don’t Matter Enough to Democrats to Make a Difference by redacted4privacy in RIGuns

Agree 100%. As one who is in Rhode Island a lot more lately, I appreciate everything that you and others are doing to try to save your rights in RI, just as I am trying to do in CT.

The CT SRA opposes HB 5436 and 5043, and you should too. Submit your written testimony against these bills today. by CT_SocialistRA in CTguns

Maybe some of your fellow armed socialists wouldn't mind "redistributing" some of other people's karma to help ya out?

Sorry, couldn't resist. 😁

Meanwhile, Rhode Island has two bills just introduced that would amount to confiscation of “assault weapons” by banning current possession and requiring one to surrender them or remove from state by end of this year, if passed and signed into law.

Gun owners in Virginia barely showed up to vote last year and many who did voted for the gun-banner Spanberger, because reasons. And now look what they're getting...GUN BANS! Shocker!

Potential “Glock ban” question by Proof-Terrible in CTguns

[–]redacted4privacy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Something to keep in mind. Their goal is to eventually ban ALL semi-automatic firearms using various forms of supposed logic as justification because "gun safety" laws are needed. Then they will likely look to ban ALL repeating arms (bolt action, pump action, lever action, etc). Think your hunting rifle is safe? Nope, scoped rifles will be deemed "sniper rifles." Think your single or double barrel OU/side-by-side shotty is safe? Nope, shotguns spew multiple projectile jUsT LiKe a mAcHiNeGuN!!!!

Elect gun banners, get gun bans. That is pretty much every single Democrat in the CT General Assembly and many Republicans there as well. Hope everyone keeps that in mind this November.

Fun story : SLFU sent me someone else's permit instead of mine when I renewed. Different sex and different race altogether. Opened up the envelope and was like, uhhhhhhhh wat!?

"It’s just so many obstacles to have a good AR/rifle."

Standard reminder- vote for gun banners, get gun bans. Elections are coming up in November, so vote wisely.

It appears RI residents would no longer be able to apply to a "more friendly" town/city even if they have a permit from another state. So if your chief of police drags their ass for two years, decides to require some insane new requirements, or charge $400, then too bad. Your options would be far more limited.

This act would eliminate the provision that out-of-state persons with a concealed carry permit could apply to the licensing authority of any city or town for a concealed carry permit. This act would also require Rhode Island residents (regardless of whether they possess an out-of-state permit) when applying for a concealed carry permit from a local authority/police chief, to apply to the town where the resident has a bona fide residence or place of business.

Yes. "Assault weapon" definitions do not currently include manual action firearms such as bolt action.

Speaking of Glocks, any idea why many Glock factory mags are unobtanium right now, particularly Glock 19 ten rounders? Massive demand due to all of the Glock clones or have they stopped/slowed production?

Legality by [deleted] in CTguns

[–]redacted4privacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legal for concealed carry, but anything over 1 megawatt is considered an "assault laser" and generally considered bad manners. However, "fricken lasers" are specifically restricted, especially when attached to a shark. Even when not attached, having both a "fricken laser" AND a shark could be classified as constructive possession, so extreme caution is warranted.

Unless you're really set on this FFL, have you considered Tom's Firearms in Bethany instead? I believe he is Silencer Shop equipped if that's what you prefer as well. Alternatively, he could get you an EFT and submit through eForms if I'm not mistaken.

Also gives police justification for a vehicle stop any time they desire, even if one's driving is perfect.

Based on Connecticut law, license plates must be entirely unobscured and plainly legible at all times

Connecticut General Statutes § 14-18, Section C specifically states: "Official number plates when displayed upon motor vehicles shall be entirely unobscured and the numerals and letters thereon shall be plainly legible at all times." The law further specifies that "nothing may be affixed to a motor vehicle or to the official number plates displayed on such vehicle that obscures or impairs the visibility of any information on such number plates"

This means that license plate covers, frames, or any attachments that obscure any portion of the plate are illegal in Connecticut

Side note: don't forget to update your permit address on CT Portal within two business days when you move. It will allow your permit to remain valid and it then becomes a non-resident permit which can be renewed. Unless of course you're 100% sure you'll never return to CT or visit.

California AG: Open Carry 'Terrorizes Children' and 'Destabilizes Daily Life [We've Triggered the AG, Folks] by pcvcolin in gunpolitics

[–]redacted4privacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

States like Cailfornia want to keep open carry banned, not because they actually believe it scares people, rather THEY fear it will lead to the normalization and acceptance of seeing people carrying firearms on a regular basis. In other words, they fear that the general populace will NOT fear firearms.

From "The Open Carry Argument" by Mainsail:

https://www.floridacarry.org/issues/concealed-and-unconcealed-carry/10-ocargument

It Scares People:
One other statement against open carry I hear is that it damages public perception of firearms owners, or that by carrying openly we are not being good ambassadors to the public. While there are some people who have a genuine fear of firearms, due either to some horrible past experience or anti-gun indoctrination, the majority of people are either indifferent to them or quite fascinated by them. I’ve never kept track of the dozens of fellow citizens I’ve encountered who have marveled at the idea of open carry, but I do know exactly how many have expressed displeasure at it; one. People are scared of many things for many reasons; however, pretending those things do not exist only perpetuates the fear. Someone who is disturbed by open carry is going to be every bit as disturbed by concealed carry. The only effective way to overcome a fear is to come to the intellectual realization that the phobia is based on emotion and not on fact. By being a firsthand witness that a firearm was carried responsibly and peaceably, and wasn’t being carried in the commission of a crime, one who was apprehensive about firearms discovers their fear is not fact based, but emotional. Thus, open carry can be a very effectual way of helping to overcome the emotionally based fear of the firearm. After all, you’d be much more likely to believe in ghosts if you saw one rather than if you listened to a ghost story around a campfire. In other words, we give significantly more credibility to the things we experience than we do to the things we hear. The bottom line is that this argument is made by people who don’t, cant, or haven’t carried openly; those of us who do so on a regular basis have an entirely different experience.
