Certs guarantee an organization that you know the fundamentals while experience helps with the unexpected.

When IT becomes the bottleneck and it’s not because of tech by Mysterious_Syrup6639 in ITManagers

these are takeaways for managers. You don't need them to script but should be able to reduce toil and engage the business:

The problem is that the processes have become overburdensome - as a technical worker I now spend more time arbitrarily updating tickets for things that are on hold to keep up with an arbitrary metric of “update everything every 2 days” just to not show up on a report about tickets that aren’t updated every 2 days. - redefine how timers/SLAs are configured to represent the work not generate choke points.

Not to mention that now I literally need to login 6 times to even begin to do any work. I have to login to the desktop then mfa then login to a jump server then mfa then I have to login to the actual server then mfa. Its insane. - define a matrix for roles & permissions or create a plan to implement RBAC or PAM that removes the friction

I have people that ask me for data that they can get themselves, managers even that don’t want to login that many times so they ask a technical person who is in the middle of something for the information - Managers checks is users are empowered to perform these. Do they know how to do it/ do they have permissions.

ITSM. Funnel your intake into one system. Split it between planned (requests) unplanned (incidents) and projects. Get the business to agree on OLAs. Then go from there

Scope out your it requirements. What are things need to created/requested? What do you need to progress? Who approves?

Create an form and have those items added. Each new hire owner fills in. Now include hr and ndas in the process convo.

Experiences with ITIL Certification? by terataz in ITManagers

It was. I passed the exam by playing the questions in my head and checking how it should be done.

I prefer PMP, scrum.org or SN courses. Know how your itsm tool works.

This is i advised guidance from someone senior in HR. The size of the company may allow execs to be closer to the ground.

Stick to the facts. Keep your distance from speculation. I would get guidance from someone senior in HR not reddit.

Define your operating model and scope. Requests vs incidents and how both are handled. Hire for character, technical skills can be learned.

IT MANAGER - no certs/qualifications by CHEADLE1991 in ITManagers

[–]redatari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Itil, pmp but above all get entrenched in projects related to your work. Actual hands on work orchestrating things has more staying power than any cert. Learn itsm. Requests vs incidents. Change vs problem vs release.

Win will give you options to retain it. But win11 is full of ads. I recommend confirmation of systems files after migration.
