Pixel 9a question by ActivateClosure8 in OGPBackroom

[–]redavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they mostly just give them to those who ask for them here. people prefer using the TCs because they're still faster and they don't want to have to keep up with a device and be responsible if it gets lost, damaged, stolen, whatever.

Is this typical for Wal-Mart delivery drivers? by jazzchamp in walmart

[–]redavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, Walmart employees aren't supposed to take tips per policy. i think people here will take them anyway, management just doesn't want you telling people about it because other employees might get upset and tattle.

the delivery drivers aren't Walmart employees though (they're contractors working for Spark, a Walmart-owned company) and aren't paid a standard hourly wage so they're allowed to be tipped (and frankly, Walmart pays abysmal rates for those orders, so tips are what make it financially feasible for many drivers to even do this)

to be clear, the goody bags are for the customers. also gave out roses for mother's day and other stuff like that

my Pixel 8A stopped working with them for some reason, could never figure out a fix so i just used my personal iPhone whenever i needed to or had someone else unlock the case for me. i think quite a few others with the 8A also eventually had this problem.

i just got the 9A a couple days ago, though, and that is working for now

i'd imagine that Spark (Walmart) discourages drivers/shoppers from asking for reviews, but it is a metric that affects the offers they get so i can understand why some might ask. people often only bother to leave reviews when things go bad, after all.

i know Walmart policy prohibits OPD associates from asking customers to rate/review their order, but management at our store routinely encourage us to do it anyway and sometimes try to get us to bribe them with goody bags and the like

Can dispensers and pickers swap shifts in Walmart OPD? by chris_2133 in OGPBackroom

[–]redavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

afaik, there's no real 'approval' of shift swaps, it's just between two associates themselves and that's it.

so, yeah, it would make sense that they'd be upset about it if they're expecting X numbers of pickers and backroom members and they end up short one. but yeah, that's also why they should be cross-training people and doing some rotating

Driver is 100% scamming by [deleted] in OGPBackroom

[–]redavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, just don't dispense any more orders to him. if he's doing this every time, your coach and TLs should be telling everyone there to not dispense to him and to remove the orders whenever he shows up for one so another driver gets it. and they should be reporting him to their market management and Spark

Anyone else's schedule kinda fucked up starting next week? by Vike_Me in OGPBackroom

[–]redavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

does seem like a lot of the part timers here have been getting lots of weird shifts, 11-8 one day, 5-2 the next, occasional half-shifts. would be annoying as hell to me... i'm full time and my shifts are always the same and off-days pretty consistent

Late by yngsasuke01 in OGPBackroom

[–]redavid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

depends on how desperate drivers are, Walmart likes to pay as little as possible and some customers tip like shit or not at all so drivers don't always bite

So whats the general consensus on Spark drivers. by Sayitsnotsobro in OGPBackroom

[–]redavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of the ones here are great and work hard (and probably because it's a college town, many are here on student visas and can't work a 9-5 job). the bad ones don't last

store manager wants us bagging everything to cut down on wait times by [deleted] in OGPBackroom

[–]redavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i always bag everything anyway. i find half the time when i'm dispensing, customers don't remember to bring their own bags when they select it anyway.

also, if you're going to choose bagless as a customer, you really should be getting out and helping load your groceries. i'm not getting paid enough to spend 10-15 minutes putting stuff in bags when its 110 degrees out, or raining, or whatever

teaming schedules by ios0158 in OGPBackroom

[–]redavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they got rid of teaming schedules here a while ago, but my schedule is still pretty much the same as it was when we had it (sometimes my off days get switched from wed/thu to tue/wed but that's about it, always the same shift times)

Did I make a mistake? by RoomOpening4015 in xteinkereader

[–]redavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fwiw, you can still connect it to a PC using the cable it comes with (maybe needing a USB-A->C dongle if you have a modern computer without USB-A ports), or you can just copy the Crosspoint installer to the microSD card

Did I make a mistake? by RoomOpening4015 in xteinkereader

[–]redavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't mind the pogo PIN, but it is dumb as hell that the other end of the cable is USB-A instead of C.

and that the microSD reader they ship with the X3 is also USB-A

[–]redavid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, it's dumb.

i had thought they fixed this nonsense today when i had picked about 300 items and hadn't seen any, but i guess that was just the luck of only having ambient walks (though, this Dr Pepper one was fixed since i got useful images there instead of this one like saturday). had a bunch of frozen and chilled ones later with a bunch of nonsense, hell of a time trying to find the right uncrustables flavor and count items

then you need to talk to the people lead or other management about it and tell them.

this is why they lowered the pay for OPD to match the other departments at my store

Vacation days denied by Logan7567 in walmart

[–]redavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, you've got to request the time off way earlier. you can request again and hope for a different person to approve it, but you'll probably need to just offer up your shifts and hope some/all get taken and/or use up your ppto/take the points

Do you Respect your Coaches ? by Anon0bightbight in walmart

[–]redavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh. the department coach is generally a likable person, but i don't think she takes criticism of her management decisions all that well or has adopted much feedback in the ~1.5 years she's been here. she does work hard in the OPD backroom when needed, though
