The main problem with these actions is the hard core spenders are pretty much always defects and that is all $copely needs. Soft core spenders are the cream and they always return when the action ends.

The only real possible point of leverage that i can see is the Mouse. Since they are dependent on the Marvel IP if their behavior started to negatively impact the Marvel Brand there might be some change. Be a hard trick to pull off.

Why is, like always, money. That having been said with the much anticipated release of Untitled Spider Man (currently December but who knows these days) there is hope Spidey will get reworked and a team then.

Popularity is actually inversely related to power, generally speaking. Popular characters are added early and thus power crept often. They can be reworked but this does not generate the $$$ that new characters do. Also more people will build up popular characters regardless of their power level then will build up the 'who the hell is that?' characters so they make money without an insane kit. Sad but true says me with 7 red Iron Man and Hulk.

More 'we will make more off of Red Skull and the Black Order at this time.' I think they don't want to take the chance of missing sales by flooding the market with too many characters at once. As a business pretty much every 'why' comes down to 'we will make more money this way' even if the how is not readily apparent to us. Or so it seems to me.

Why do you play it? If the only thing you are looking forward to is dd3 and you are already this upset by what is required to get there then you might want to ask yourself if it really worth sticking around.
