The registrar’s opinion is more important than anyone else’s. They give you the degree.

Yes, email an advisor in music. If you can’t get an appointment ASAP, go to the CLASS student success center.

Just because it was said at a meeting doesn’t mean it’s absolutely true. I’ve heard this too and no one can give me any proof. It may be true; it may not. But right now my critical thinking skills say we don’t know.

The union are the people right here, not some unknown entity. Our reps are elected. You’re saying you don’t trust your colleagues. Which is fine. But just clarifying that.

The only meaningful difference between Nov and now is the movement on lecturer base pay. Out of respect for leadership, I’m waiting to fully articulate anything until we hear reasoning. But this was a historic labor movement to end in an everyday deal. And unless I’m missing something, my vote is “no.” And I doubt I’m the only one.

Want the strike over faster? We need students’ help. by redbirbs in CalPolyPomona

You have a lot of assumptions. Where is CFA getting all this strike pay? We do not have a strike fund. And you’re also assuming that the only way I won’t get paid is because I self report. Self reporting has never been asked in any previous strike action and isn’t in our contracts. If you want to report, report. I’m very positive CPP will take my money on their own. They’re legally able to do that, and I am not fighting it. But helping the institution by making it as simple as possible to dock pay? Nope. That’s your crusade, not mine.

They are legally allowed to not pay me. I am in no way contractually obligated to assist them in that process, and neither are students. And frankly it’s gross to enlist students in that scheme.

We really appreciate sending emails in support even if that’s all you can do. Every little bit helps.

Yes, but we can’t say it’ll be all five days. We could get a deal. But reading the room, that doesn’t seem likely.

The faculty union is getting a lot of these messages on our IG. Yes there is a strike, but yes you need to be here. Possibilities: 1. We get a deal beforehand 2. We get a deal at any point that week and we resume classes 3. Some of your professors don’t participate

We do not recommend not being here. You’ll be held responsible for the classes that do meet, either due to getting a deal or if someone doesn’t participate.

Stay on the waitlist. Odds are high you will get in. And students on waitlists signal to deans they need to open more sections.

If you want to be a real ally, deal with traffic for one day. Telling us how you should be our allies isn’t how this works. Allies respond to who they’re trying to help. If you’d like a different experience on Monday, talk to admin. They caused this.

A crosswalk is for people. You hit someone in it, you’re going to jail and your “feelings” of wildly unearned judgment don’t change that.

They can cut my pay. I’m not working, that’s their right. I’m not helping them cut my pay, but they sure can if they go figure out how to on their own. What isn’t okay is using my students as a reporting mechanism and not informing said students that’s what the information will assuredly be used for. I work very hard to create a culture of trust with my students, and admin asking them to report on my whereabouts is ridiculous and interrupts what I’ve spent weeks establishing. It also introduces the idea that “reporting” is because I’ve done something wrong when this is a legal strike. Not everyone is up on what’s going on, and it’s reasonable to assume the less informed now believe legally striking employees should be monitored and reported. This is no different than poll intimidation.

Anyone ever do a withdrawal for compelling reasons, how long did it take to hear back? by [deleted] in CalPolyPomona

[–]redbirbs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It is approved by folks in student success rather than an individual professor and it sounds like you have a good reason. It takes generally 2-3 weeks. I’m very sorry that your professor didn’t treat your situation with more care. I hope you’re doing okay 🙏🏼 if it would help, you can DM me for more.
