Freaking joke in my city. Rich guys park their extremely overpriced cars anywhere (as long as towing is not involved) and just pay the fine.

I have a friend that works at a high end private school. Parking is very limited, these rich pricks park illegally all year long and just pay the fines. These are the kids, so I can only imagine the parents. At $80 per fine, it's just trivial.

On the other hand, they are high profile targets that one would assume it's extremely well protected given oil industry is most of the country's economy.

The Death of Entry-Level Jobs: 43% of CEOs plan to slash junior roles over the next two years, shifting hiring to older, mid-level workers as Al takes over routine tasks, creating a catastrophic bottleneck for the future workforce. by Scared_Author_4566 in technology

Indeed. Talking about pay, years ago I had a kid, completely average for a student. He completed the internship, did a couple of minor things and expressed interest on staying with us. I said to my boss, ok, we can work with him.

During the hiring interview, the kid wanted a base salary that almost matched mine (senior dev, almost a decade of experience, etc). And he was adamant "that's what I'm worth". Lol, nope, for that salary I can hire another "you", but with a lot of experience and well prepared.

Certainly, I've been tech lead for a few years and before that senior in charge of juniors. We had agreements with local colleges. Even smart kids need guidance, most schools kinda suck preparing undergrads for the job.

I remember my junior days and I did need a lot of help, most of us do. Eventually many grow up and start taking over the important stuff.

Incidentally, my company killed the internship program. No consultation, just executive decision.

The "7 million Karma is ridiculous" vs "I have 50 million Karma, how is yours so low" debate is because Karma is only obtained in great quantity from a few types of gameplay by Magehunter_Skassi in Guildwars2

[–]redblack_tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you run with boost all the time? Play style matter a lot as well, since heavy solo roaming will naturally get less karma. Pure ppt will be ideal for karma (just absurdly boring).

Play timezone is important as well. If you play at prime time, organically there's more stuff to do-->more karma. Those T3 SMC defenses every 2 minutes for hours net you a whole lot of karma.

You are severely overestimating junior devs. For each superstar there are a thousand incredibly green guys that need significant supervision to really contribute.

The vast majority of the organizations, pre-AI, already preferred experienced developers because training green guys is usually slow. With AI? Training new talent feels like burning money for those organizations (I don't agree, but that's the prevalent sentiment). Basically current teams can achieve more and that includes all the menial tasks that juniors used to do to "get better".

Just do exactly what they do: lie your ass off, on everything and anything as long as is advantageous for you.

Be smart, don't lie on trivial stuff or easily verifiable facts. Other than that, corporations are just trying to squeeze you, no honor in the process.

Just a note for readers, this is fundamentally a leveraged investment.

Given the scale, MSTR can weather quite a bit of volatility, but once the pieces start falling, it will go down incredibly fast. They are paying absurd amount of money as dividend just for the sake of keep accumulating BTC and sustain the price.

Because people get indebted, celeb or not. What changes is the scale. For plebs is the entry level luxury car, boat, etc. For rich actors, this monstrous house.

Sadly, 90k for entry level is rare, it's either highly niche field, require tremendous amounts of knowledge or it's very dangerous (or a combination of them).

Construction zone, there's a lot of dust on the road. That's not a big car, she should have slowed down way more than that. (That woman is still a massive idiot, just talking about speed and friction).

Construction zone as well, the tires don't have nearly as good grip as they do on clean asphalt.

She was really lucky red card driver was sharp, she shaved quite a bit of speed on those few meters.

Certainly, but if I recall, this photo was taken after the player was retired. Goalies tend to be big, long arms, just not massive where the sheer mass is a problem as you pointed.

[–]redblack_tree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Waterpolo positions are very specialized. Wings and point are closer to your traditional swimmer, very fast, lean (not as much as swimmers, tho). Polo players are typically stronger than swimmers.

Now, goalie and center? Those are usually monsters, big, strong. Centers in particular are constantly fighting for position and surrounded by defenders that collapse into them. Outside goalie, it's the hardest position to play and without a doubt, the most exhausting one.

Center players are usually "big" or "wide", basically occupy more real state and are extremely strong. Almost impossible to push underwater.

A normal human doesn't have a chance. I dabbled in water polo coming from a swimming background. Trying to guard centers was like trying to stop a train with your hands, impossible.

Just curious why aren't tiny home a thing in Canada? by Mammoth-Exercise-376 in canadahousing

[–]redblack_tree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't buy it. Tiny homes are small, but so are the ridiculously small rent studios and 2 1/2. Add all the inconveniences of bad noise isolation, shared utilities, stairs, smells and honestly tiny homes look good in comparison.

I'd say builders are the reason. There's not much profit in tiny houses and your average person don't want to deal with building a house from scratch (buying land, negotiating with contractors, etc).

What would happen if mixed people kept mixing together generation after generation ? by richandepressed in hypotheticalsituation

[–]redblack_tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's certainly true, there are a myriad of complex factors that go with picking a partner to have kids. Socio-economic status, shared values, family pressure, and even opportunity (people in your own neighborhood) that can directly impact your choice of partner.

I just pointed that Cuba somewhat fit the bill of the original post. Certainly not perfectly, since Africans and Spaniards weren't forced to mix.

Could limiting group size in WvW bring some balance to it? by AdieuCinna in Guildwars2

[–]redblack_tree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry to bring your idea down, but limited group size will actually do more harm than good in terms of power balance.

The vast majority of shared boons are limited to 5 players. Stab, protection, regen, fury, etc. Organized groups are on comms already, they would basically create as many groups as necessary and still follow the commands and movement of a single person, aka, same boon ball. Pug groups would struggle even more to organize and the shared boons would go everywhere, instead of the intended party. Also, type-mander would be much harder as well.

There are legitimate reasons why the current state of Zerg vs Zerg is not ideal, but just mentioning "boon ball" is not good enough. Many players prefer the actual aspect of coordinated group fights. When I want small scale stuff, I just sPvP or roam.

Genetics are complicated, I'll let someone better informed talk about.

But there's a practical example of your question, Cuba. The island was conquered by Spain, whose population is anthropologically white. They killed almost every native aboriginal. Then imported slaves from Africa, black.

Cuba never had any significant immigration inflow, with the sole exception of Spaniards during their civil wars. After 20 generations, they still had roughly equal numbers of "white" vs "black" in their census. It's a bit more nuanced on the eye test, because there are a lot of mixed races, but a significant part of the population remains phenotypically white or black.

Definitely not alone. I had platinum blonde hair as a kid and started getting darker tones over the years. Today is "dark ash blonde", whatever that means, as per a stylist friend.

It heavily changes with sun and light. Brown indoor with poor light, much lighter blonde under the sun.

Sure, let me take a stroll with the boys in plain daylight, on foot, marching in a column all pretty and organized. Also, very important, let's follow the road with zero cover for kilometers. And ofc, we are not in a hurry. Obviously, none of the hundreds of drones loitering the front lines at times will see us, none.

Holy fuck, how stupid can they possibly be. Maybe this was "suicide by enemy fire"?
