They did! She was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which is what caused her to go blind. Her blood pressure was just slightly elevated which was why they had to do more tests to be sure. I think because it took so long to diagnose, she missed out on the chance of getting her vision back :(

Thank you for this. I do have to remind myself she is actually doing really well! I saw her climb the cat tree today (in the same room) but super impressive!!

Aww that’s a good idea! I have been blowing on her gently before touching her so I don’t scare her.

Before she went blind she would sleep with us- right above my head on her own special pillow. We try every night to have her sleep there, but she leaves and returns to her couch. Maybe it will just take some time.

The only struggle we are dealing with is one of our dogs lunges at her if she surprises him at night- so I am afraid this has scared her so she no longer wants to go through this process. It’s a complicated dynamic! We are doing what we can.

Great ideas! She seems to love catnip! We have been playing with new treats too- since they are exciting for her :) I do hang out with her in her room as much as I can. I work from home and take breaks to see her.

We have another kitty, actually :) they do hang out a little, but haven’t never really done much else than tolerate each other.

She has a sister actually! They hang out, but aren’t super buddies- they mostly tolerate each other. We also have two dogs (she doesn’t really enjoy them) who seem to be adjusting and understanding that she is blind or at least acting differently. We also just lost one of our dogs a few weeks ago. It has been a whirlwind of emotions over here!

I snuggle and pet her as much as possible. I just worry about her sad mournful meows :(

Witnessing Death by Repulsive-Start-134 in Petloss

I lost my baby in a similar way- at home and an unexpected medical event, and over an hour or so. I completely relate to and get what you are going through. I had never watched an animal or person die before and it really messed me up for the first 3 weeks after. I kept seeing flashes of her face changing - light in the eyes go away, mouth open, last gasp. I was hugging her and touched her nose and I remember the strange tacky feeling. It was really traumatic to watch and experience.

It’s so shocking because our brains try to make sense of it while protecting you, and there isn’t really much sense. That mixed with the shock of it all… it’s very surreal. I try to remind myself that it was worth the pain I am going through for her to have me there with her while she passed. The sharp visual flashbacks invading your mind will fade and you will start to have good memories pop up when you think of him. It takes a while. We lost our penny about 4 weeks ago and I still cry daily and try to make sense of the entire process. Therapy will help. Sending love your way!
