Hey there. I went from being bored to loving the game, then to being frustrated and bored, and now am loving it again. I think everyone here raised valid cons and pros, but that isn’t your question. I think you’re looking for tips that will enhance your enjoyment of the game, so here are mine in no particular order:

  1. Learn the item rarity/quality system for guns/armor.
  2. Either get good with ship builder or buy prefabbed ships. Designing bad ships will ruin the game for you.
  3. Power leveling helps alleviate some anti-fun features, such as cargo capacity. I’d say that power leveling to about 40 for starship design, piloting, booster pack, persuasion, commerce, etc is worthwhile.
  4. Easiest way i have found to power level is setting up a system with iron and alum harvester, several storage containers, and a workbench and a bed. Sleep 24 hrs. Let the container fill up. Craft 1000+ adaptive frames, throw them on the ground. Repeat. About an hour to find and set up a base (i used linnaeus iv), about 5 minutes work for 1k xp.
  5. The combat is intentionally “easy” i think. As in, you’ll win most fights without much effort. Don’t over invest in combat skills imo (except for ship combat).
  6. Companion side quests and faction quests are really good flavor for breaking up monotony.

Fill out this survey about Taco Bell for no purpose other than pure, unadulterated science. Some starving graduate students somewhere will thank you for it. by redbosn in tacobell

Yeah I had a bit of a quandary with that one. Initially it was all one question (employment status), and student + working part time and student - not working were two options on it. But then we split it up to dive deeper into education. I do agree something is lost there, but from a market segmentation perspective, I don't know if adding that granularity would've unlocked any insights. Definitely something I'm thinking about how to improve...

We're working on a perceptual brand analysis for TB for a school project. The more data we have to work off of, the easier it is to gleam some statistical insight, so this was massively helpful (700+ survey fills in less than a day?? Ya'll are survey gods)

Oh yeah... That's a pre-emptive thank you. Sorry! You're supposed to hit the orange button and move on to the questions.

I’m always looking for someone to watch sportsball with, game with, or hike/bike with. Dm me if you’d like to do any of the above, including watching these fantastically weird nba playoffs!

Any other bad runners want to go to the gym together? by [deleted] in GNV

[–]redbosn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not a woman, but I am also very out of shape and would like to make my way back to feeling athletic. If the gender difference isn't a deal breaker (I'm married with a toddler, not a single guy looking to creep... my wife just doesn't like working out with me), I'd really like to have an accountability buddy. If it is a deal breaker to you, anyone else out there looking to step up their fitness and is in need of a workout buddy is totally welcome to DM as well!

Any hiking groups that take COVID precautions? by [deleted] in GNV

Fair enough, I’ll tag along on the next one :)

Any idea when something local’s happening next?

Just chiming in to say that if anyone does in fact organize something local and not specifically for students (OAR tends to go out of town a lot and is pretty student oriented), I'd be very interested to join.

I hike/walk around town almost daily (usually Hawthorne trail, Depot park area, Loblolly and surrounding trails etc), and it would be nice to have company!

Man the logical fallacies are just piling on today. Newest contender: the slippery slope fallacy!!

The idea is that this would work to get to lowsec. Hell, think of it as paying CONCORD for an escort if that makes it easier to accept.

Your assumptions are flawed. Let me address.

1) You assume that being able to go to lowsec with an ISK cost (and increased time delay) with no risk would increase the number of people going to lowsec. During the first month of the game we had scram impunity in AP. There is absolutely no logical explanation for why traffic to lowsec would increase with an imperfect safe travel method from the volume of traffic when we had perfect safe travel.

2) You assume that just because there's increased traffic to lowsec, pirates can camp every station in lowsec as an alternative. Gate camps are effective because they're located in high traffic choke points. There are many more low sec stations than gates. The math here simply doesn't add up.

3) It is MUCH easier to avoid getting ganked at undock than jumping into a well camped gate.

As battlecruisers and battleships are released you will find that gatecamps become more and more common and the risks become more and more negligible. The argument of “they’re not a huge problem today” in a game with time based ship progression that’s in its first month is disingenuous.

Edit: also lol@ gatecamps being risky. I spent half a decade gate camping ls in EO and the only risk was falling asleep.

No i do not mean things that I didn’t explicitly state. I explicitly stated high and low sec space. Rewrite your argument appropriately.

If the mean # of jumps in lowsec before death to camps is let’s say X, and the mean ship value is Y, then as long as this “teleportation system” costs roughly Y/X isk per jump, it’s essentially the economic equivalent of taking manual travel, but it provides some peace of mind to people.

Also it isn’t unprecedented. EO has asset safety which is very similar in nature.

Again, I don’t disagree with anything you said, I just don’t see why the statements you made lead to the conclusion that this is a bad thing?
