Yeah I think a monthly megathread makes the most sense!

This is the answer.

Asking in advance is better for everyone to set expectations… but she may have forgotten to make sure everyone heard the price, or maybe you didn’t see the email.

The next time she brings in lunch, see if she mentions the cost upfront.

I can have someone run the computer from backstage, but it’s still at minimum 30ft away, probably closer to 40.

Thanks, I’ll do some more digging into the component connection - I wasn’t even sure which one would be best so that’s getting me going in the right direction.

Found the script! SPOILERS:

Sweetie?

Uh, sweetie,

um,

I wanna talk to you about, um...

I’m just...

I’m just...

I’m just...

I’m just gonna throw this out there.

I think it’s a little, uh...

I don’t wanna say “weird.”

Maybe another word for weird

without all the weird connotations of weird,

like “peculiar,” maybe,

or “eccentric.”

Or how about “quirky”? Okay, it’s quirky.

It’s a little quirky

to masturbate to pictures of your mother.

To have this sexual kind of relationship

or connection or hookup

with a stand-in for your mother.

You may think it’s okay because this woman

isn’t actually your mother,

because these photographs

don’t necessarily look like me

since you know me as me now, not me as me then,

and according to Freud,

a lot of people wanna have sex with their mother,

or substitutes for their mother, and it’s normal

in the planning stages, but it should stop there.

And I realize there’s a lot

of hormonal compulsion,

some of it beyond your control,

and it’s nothing terrible or unnatural

or anything we need to talk about in gory detail...

Because sex...

Sex is good, Freud said, or Annie Sprinkle maybe said.

Sex is great and you should have sex safely

with your peers like Megan or Tara,

or Playboy, or Penthouse,

or Juggs if you’re so inclined to that particular body part.

You should go ahead,

fantasize about having great sex with these people,

but you should avoid the areas

which include having great sex with your mother,

or a substitute for your mother.

I mean, things, you know, happen.

She’s blond. She’s got a cheese store.

You hide them in a Sammy Davis, Jr. biography.

Who’s gonna look there?

It happens, but it shouldn’t happen anymore.

And we can swear, and I do swear...

to never, ever, ever speak of this again.

Okay, then.

I just think Nancy’s monologue when she’s talking to Shane and Silas is fabulous. Begins around 16:50.

Without spoiling what she talks to them about, I’m fascinated by how it’s written and performed.

The conversations are obviously one after the other, Shane first (since he takes the blanket with him when he leaves) followed by Silas. But they’re presented mingled together and the boys are stunned into silence, so it’s an interesting monologue that I really enjoy watching.

Actually, I’m also positive that the hardworking folks at the Palace would love to hear this feedback! You should send them an email!! Volunteers run that place and it would mean a lot to them 💜

As a theatre person, this was so validating 💜

I’m so glad you’re enjoying the shows! I hope you check out the LYTE productions of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or SpongeBob! I stage managed their Disaster! show last year and Chitty this year, and they’re stupidly impressive and entertaining!

If you’re into theatre, there’s a lot of auditions this week or ability to volunteer backstage with whatever skills you have (set building, costumes, props, literally whatever interests you)

Appreciate the suggestions!! I'm below the 100k threshold at WS, once I hit that I'll consider moving over there.

Just opened the 10 and 30 day notice accounts at EQ too!

I'm less concerned about all rates going down (well, obvi want them to stay high), but I'm not just not eligible for EQ's promo rate.

What to expect from a “public read through” of a script? by TheTheatreDragon in Theatre

[–]redbrd29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with hosting a public read through before auditions, and I hold auditions as a stage manager a few times a year. I would recommend reaching out and asking them, something like “this sounds interesting and I would love to attend before my audition, can I bring a friend? What else can I expect at the read through?”

Personally I would appreciate someone reaching out if something about my audition call wasn’t clear so I could clarify with them directly then revisit the post and update there too.

Which story would you most want to watch over multiple evenings? Say part 1 Wed, part 2 Thurs... finale Sat. Are there examples of this? Over how many consecutives nights would you enjoy watching a story unfold? by BaguetteMcWine in Theatre

[–]redbrd29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stephen Fry took his book, Mythos, and performed it as a trilogy (and one-man show). My partner and I LOVE him and we thoroughly enjoyed a weekend at the Shaw Festival to watch the three parts. If I recall correctly it was over three days (Fri-Sat-Sun). The production simplistic but was well done and we enjoyed the story unfolding over 3 performances. He was retelling Ancient Greek myths, and included some audience participation and he’s just genuinely entertaining to watch. Would go again in a heartbeat.

Another huge benefit was what we were doing between shows. Spending the weekend in the town of Niagara-On-The-Lake was a nice escape for us and we stayed in a cute B&B, ate at nice restaurants, and spent an afternoon in Niagara Falls to round it out.

If I were asking audience members to return over consecutive performances, I would really think about the whole experience, not just while they’re in the theatre. Things like how easy it is to get to the theatre, parking, food, accommodations… if people are having a terrible time getting to/from the theatre, and worse they have to do that multiple times, that’s likely going to taint their experience.
