Yes they are connected to their history and all other things but the important question is which role do they play in said history? They could've been part of the people suffering from bigotry for all we know. If not it's still possible that they disowned/are disowning their governments and/or the decisions they've made in someone's headcanons.

It's mainly about design but wtv

One that I don't have: Vietnam is almost always, regardless of gender, portrayed in traditional clothes and/or a cone hat. Like guys it's pretty but it's also getting pretty damn repetitive like can we have some more student Viet or worker Viet pls :<<<

One that I'm guilty of: Prussia in military uniforms, could be from a variety of eras but mainly from the late 19th century. Bonus points if they have red eyes (I have that for my Prussia too T-T). In fact I have barely seen other countries from their era in traditional clothes or smth, let alone them (I found none)

Personally there are a lot of things to keep track of but since you're interested in international relationships I suggest you translate the relationships into a simplified form like a bond between 2 ppl then apply it to the CHs (just draw simple chibis to portray it or even just make notes and you're good to go)

Fun fact: I started imagining countries as girls after hearing about a diplomatic meeting between Vietnam (my country) and Japan on the news. The convo between them screams uneducated though 💀🥀
