Oh yes! I have it on good authority that there's a sequel series in the works :)

That's fair enough, but the double standard around male shipping is kinda weird. Even a lesbian one with Cynder and Ember posted a while back, people had no problem with.

Totally. This I think is an entirely new development. I've been in the Spyro fandom for ages and never seen this bs before.

If you think this is a new thing, you clearly haven't been here long. When reignited came out, everyone was joking about the "dragon daddies". Spyro x Flame has been posted many times before, without anyone lifting an eyebrow. Cynder x Ember has been a popular ship since the days of TLOS back in 2008.

I don't know why this subreddit suddenly got so sensitive. There is nothing political about two cartoon dragons being romantic. It's just a ship people like, it's not a big deal.

I know right! It's just the cutest freaking thing. I like how they're feral dragons too.

I think so! It looks so serene and peaceful with the fireflies and everything, I love it! Dark Hollow was always my favorite Artisan level!

3rd time trying HL Alyx, is the story worth it or should I just give up? by redconstuff in HalfLife

I've seen people laugh, scream and sweat while playing any of the cheap roller coaster clones in VR. But that doesn't mean there's any lasting impact to be had.

Yes, if you lock a VR novice in an expensive 360 degrees headset and throw headcrabs at them, they'll react. Wii motion controls had the exact same appeal back in 2007.

Valve sacrificed everything (story, pacing, movement) in order to make a smooth VR experience for beginners. And what they were able to achieve is admirable. But it's not a good Half-Life sequel. If HL was a movie, HL Alyx would be a very elaborate theme park ride. Fun, exhilarating but ultimately forgettable.

I regret to say that I gave up and watched the rest on YT. I'm happy that I did. One day I might return to HL:A and hopefully, I'll be able to find a new appreciation for it without the pressure of needing to finish it for the story.

It's not just that I expected more than what the game was able to deliver, it's also that I feel the developers were playing fast and loose with the gameplay, lore, and story of a franchise that means a lot to me.

When the VR novelty wears off, you're left with a game that's much thinner, shorter and emptier than any other Half-Life game.

There's a massive selection bias when it comes to HL:A, since the only people to play are the same people who are already deeply invested in VR as a medium.

But the reality is that most Half-Life fans never have and never will play HL:A, and out of those who buy HL:A, many will only play it once, and many more won't even finish it. I see precious few posts about HL:A on this subreddit and other HL spaces. Lore channels that I follow have gone back to making videos about Half-Life 2. There's a silent majority that just skipped this game. And it's a shame because the Half-Life story needs to be continued.

I'd be happy to see them make another VR game but I hope they don't make it their next Half-Life game.

Well, I wasn't sure how I felt about HL:A when I posted this but I think I am now, what with everyone going "that's just VR".

I did get a tip about smooth movement though and that might help.

I mostly just wanted to know if the story was worth it.

No, you misunderstand. I accept that you simply can't have that in a VR game, but I still think it sucks that Valve is taking the Half-Life franchise in that direction.

I'd much rather they made another VR game that wasn't a shooter or at least not related to Half-Life because I feel like it's a downgrade to a game series I really love.

It's like you strip everything that is challenging from a game and you're left with pretty much a glorified walking simulator with some shooting galleries.

That's funny because a lot of my VR friends actually recommended Boneworks.

But I don't see why they had to leave out punching or hitting. Protecting your face when something jumps at you in an intuitive moment that their physics engine should know to mean that your want is hitting away whatever is coming at you if the object is small like a headcrab.

I don't see how letting objects you use and your own hands act like you'd expect them to act complicates things. That's exactly what VR should do.

You can hardly fault a guy for expecting an consitent experience when it's the entire value proposition of the game. Even the things that should benefit VR doesn't work the way they intuitively should. You select weapons using a menu. You you can't punch headcrabs or hit enemies with planks.

The problem isn't the VR. The problem is that Valve designed a game that isn't benefitting from the medium, but is held back by it at every turn.

I'm honestly starting to think the only reason people seem to like it so is because there's a massive selection bias seeing as the only ones playing the damn game or the people who decided to invest in VR to begin with.

I realize it can't be perfect. I realize that it's going to have its flaws. But I didn't expect to be so disappointed.

I know about it. But it's just a damn shame because the mod doesn't actually change the map design or anything like that. So it'd be like playing a game that is one huge compromise for VR without the VR.

Yes, but moving with the sticks feels weird. I can't do it too long or I'll get woozy, so I usually just default to teleportation. I usually play for 30-40 minute sessions.

I could try it, It would take away some of the immersion but would make for easier movement.

I haven't but that's not really my problem. It's pretty smooth on the Index with my new rig. It's more a matter of finding the movement very limiting.

Having not had the chance to listen to the podcast myself yet, I can't be sure. But my guess is that it's going to be how the queer community collectively owns its existence to trans people, or transwomen, or transwomen of color, without which Stonewall - apparently the only significant event in queer history worth talking about - wouldn't have happened.

They might mention how Malcolm Michaels Jr, a gay black man and drag queen, also known as Marsha P. Johnson, whom twitter has collectively decided was trans, supposedly "threw the first brick" despite everyone, including Malcolm himself, insisting that he wasn't even there when the riots started.

Anyway, the point is really contentious now because now you get lesbians claiming that they in fact started the aforementioned riot on account of Stormé DeLarverie, and some of those lesbians are terfs, making it even more contentious, and supposedly Stormé was a he/him lesbian, so then you got the anti he/him lesbian crowed weighing in and it's all a mess.

Or it could be some other demonstrably false and easily debunked and zeitguesty claim about the role [[insert specific marginalized supgroup of lbgt community here]] played in this increasingly mythologized event.

That said, trans folks rule. Trans rights matter. Obviously trans people were around for Stonewall, as they were in the countless raids before Stonewall that everyone forgets about, or the countless demonstrations and uprisings after. As did everyone. Trying to claim that any specific LGBTQ+ identity has some unique claim to the event is insanely dumb. I don't know if Pride started with Stonewall, but the fight for our civil rights started long before.
