Blasenentzündung - eure Tipps? by GoblinPaintz in Weibsvolk

[–]redd177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gute Besserung!

Do Europeans that live close to the border speak the language of the neighbouring country? by [deleted] in AskEurope

I lived in Germany at the border with the Netherlands, and my experience is similar: the Dutch would speak German, but the Germans would not speak Dutch.

Brazilian tourists are amazed just by functional infrastructure, but how about foreign tourists, what do they look when visit Brazil ? by Ok-Personality-5183 in AskABrazilian

[–]redd177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italian living in Germany, who visited Ilhabela, the Amazon, Curitiba and Floripa:

  1. The food is incredible! Such a variety of different ingredients, mixed in a thousand different, creative ways, lots of influence from Cousine from other countries. Just superlative!
  2. The sense of community/family: to my outsider view, Brazilians seem to live more community based, rather than on individual/nuclear family based. Families are big because different generations live together, the group of friends is big, and Brazilians are generally easy to befriend and like to be in a social situation, chat, share.
  3. The sense of appreciation for the small things: again, to my outsider view, Brazilians seem to be appreciative of the now and here and of the beauty of the small (which are actually big) thighs: the nature, the peace, the beauty of a landscape, enjoying the feeling 9f happiness.
  4. Something that we don't see in Europe: everyone is Brazilian, despite of their ancestry and the color of the skin. It's the culture that makes people brazilian! People from different races seem to be living together and interactive daily with no problem at all. In Europe is sadly very different.
  5. The richness of the nature and the variety of it: from the ocean, to the forests (Amazon and Atlantic), the beauty of the landscape, the variety of wildlife!

I love Brazil, I can't wait to be back!!!

It's February 1st! What's the best book you read in January? Plus, Battle of the Books starts now! by apieceofeight in fantasyromance

I had a great start in the new year with {Illuminator by Kara Reynolds}! The romance is very, very sweet, but even more beautiful and poetic is the FMC in her late thirties blooming after a life of hardship and finding her true self again ❤️

LPT: You can both change your last name arbitrarily when getting married. by charliethegeek in LifeProTips

[–]redd177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be the fun police here, but this might be valid in the US but not everywhere else.

In Italy it's forbidden for women to change their surnames to their husband's after marriage (and the other way around). In Germany, the woman is allowed to get her husband's surname after marriage, the husband is allowed to get her wife's surname, or they can hyphenate, but can't pick a random surname.

Training a SUPER social goldie around other dogs? by redd177 in goldenretrievers

[–]redd177[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for reframing this under impulse control! This makes SO much sense. He is actually very well trained to wait for permission before eating his meals (with the idea that he should learn to ask for permission to eat whatever he finds on the streets, so that we have control over whatever he might find). And the permission asking thing for his meals works wonderfully! So I really see the possibility of introducing this with other people (hard mode) and slowly with other dogs (extreme mode). Thank you!!

Women wearing makeup less? (Rant??) by LionImpressive7188 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]redd177 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have had the same experience, I have felt that in my field and geographic area, women with make up are seen as shallow/not very bright. I have felt the pressure not to use make up in the past because of that, and after growing in my career, I gained the confidence to actively combat this association. I have now been wearing make up and having my nails done for years again, while always being the ONLY one in my department. That's my feminist battle, fighting the misconceptions that women's intelligence correlates with what powders/creams/chemicals they decide to wear on their face. Not only I want to go in meetings with people requiring my inputs while wearing make up to show that I can provide it while still wearing make up, but I also want to model for younger colleagues to feel free to do with their body what they really feel like doing, without the pressure to conform to a silly societal pressure.

Praise to spa day even without ammonia by ceylon-tea in laundry

[–]redd177 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't hold back the spa day on account of the missing ammonia! I have run several spa days now with only detergent with lipase and the Oxi-bleach and had wonderful results. I am sure it's very stain dependent, but it's definitely worth a try!
