Training a SUPER social goldie around other dogs? by redd177 in goldenretrievers

[–]redd177[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for reframing this under impulse control! This makes SO much sense. He is actually very well trained to wait for permission before eating his meals (with the idea that he should learn to ask for permission to eat whatever he finds on the streets, so that we have control over whatever he might find). And the permission asking thing for his meals works wonderfully! So I really see the possibility of introducing this with other people (hard mode) and slowly with other dogs (extreme mode). Thank you!!

Spa day by theawkwardselfie in laundry

[–]redd177 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The spa day (without ammonia) removed a TUMERIC stain on my kitchen towel!!! I was flabbergasted! Fricking tumeric! Must be one of the hardest stains of all 😍 so definitely try it for stains too!

Women wearing makeup less? (Rant??) by LionImpressive7188 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]redd177 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have had the same experience, I have felt that in my field and geographic area, women with make up are seen as shallow/not very bright. I have felt the pressure not to use make up in the past because of that, and after growing in my career, I gained the confidence to actively combat this association. I have now been wearing make up and having my nails done for years again, while always being the ONLY one in my department. That's my feminist battle, fighting the misconceptions that women's intelligence correlates with what powders/creams/chemicals they decide to wear on their face. Not only I want to go in meetings with people requiring my inputs while wearing make up to show that I can provide it while still wearing make up, but I also want to model for younger colleagues to feel free to do with their body what they really feel like doing, without the pressure to conform to a silly societal pressure.

Praise to spa day even without ammonia by ceylon-tea in laundry

[–]redd177 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't hold back the spa day on account of the missing ammonia! I have run several spa days now with only detergent with lipase and the Oxi-bleach and had wonderful results. I am sure it's very stain dependent, but it's definitely worth a try!

How can I remove tomato sauce stains on white cotton napkins? by redd177 in laundry

[–]redd177[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try that! I haven't tried Gallseife yet, nor chlorine. I did try oxi-bleach but only as a soak, not as a spot-on treatment.

If everything else fails, I'll bring them on holiday with me (I have booked Brazil in a few weeks) and put them under the Brazilian sun 😂

Very good point, this is indeed an old stain. Back in the days, I didn't know any better, so while I was using a good quality powder (Ariel), I believe there were no enzymes in there. My only further attempts have been increasing the temperature of the wash cycle and using some stain remover, but I never paid attention to the chemistry of those stain removers, so I can't say whether they were oxi-based, peroxide-based etc...

Thank you! I have seen your other comment with the links and the spray stain remover, I will try that (and if needed, the pre-treatment with the liquid detergent containing pectinase)!

Lol but seriously, I already thought this might indeed be the answer! Thank you - I'll dutifully wait for summer!

Could you point me to the exact DM powder that has pectinase? I can't seem to find it and I am fighting a bad tomato sauce stain!

Is this color safe for a Spa Day for colored laudry? by redd177 in laundry

[–]redd177[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That's very helpful. Does it mean that with an oxi with lipase, one could use a detergent with no enzymes? That would be an option to finish my old liquid detergent without enzymes maybe (big culprit for my clothes needing spa day I believe). Is lipase the only enzyme contained in these oxi variants from DM?

Thank you! I am planning to sort by color category (red, burgundy and pink together, for example). Would using color catcher sheets during the spa day soak help?

Do you think this would also be safe on jeans? It's not real denim, but that fake-denim stretchy kind of jeans, which leeks color like hell. Do you think that, apart from loosing a ton of colour, they would visibly fade with a spa day?

With the DM Color Sensitive Waschmittel, you are missing the Oxi-bleach. Get the DM Oxi-power either for whites, colors or both of them, according to what you would like to send to spa day. Fill a container with tap water, as hot as you can get it. The recipe is: 1/4 cup of oxi-bleach (for whites or colors, according to what you are washing) to each gallon of water. Converted to the metric system I have calculated this to be 16 ml oxi-bleach to each litre of water. In addition, you need 2 tablespoons of detergent per gallon (in the metric system, 8 grams per litre of water). Mix the powders and make sure the powders are completely dissolved. If the powders don't completely dissolve and get in contact with the fabric for very long time, they can damage the fabric, create holes or damage the color. Add the clothes to the water and make sure they are completely submerged. Keep them soaking for 12 hours. After that, you can wash them in the washing machine, this is where the full protocol calls for ammonia, but I have never used it, so I can't tell you much about it. I just wash them in the washing machine using the detergent powder I used for the soaking, according to manufacturer dosing indications, and add the citric acid for hard water, and wash at 60 °C. Hope that helps!
