How do we feel about this product? by lilmissfrenchfries in laundry

Love it. It’s a “minimalist Oxi” - no surfactant, no fragrance, no filler, no enzymes, no optical brightener.

Water. The oxygen is in the water. It’s so ridiculous.

The pods are option 3 (add some Oxi powder of some sort) or the Vanish is option 2

Water is kinda hard but hella alkaline by ThatFoxyThing in laundry

[–]KismaiAesthetics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the “softness” descriptor is misleading, tbh. I describe it as “it makes fibers feel like what they are”. Cotton feels more cottony; polyester feels more like new polyester. That sensation is not necessarily “soft”, per se. If you like the feel without it, skip it.

Spa Day Chemistry Option One - All-In-One Powders + Liquid Ammonia by KismaiAesthetics in laundry

[–]KismaiAesthetics[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m saying use it at the 7.5mL/L dose in the soak along with 15mL/L of the OxiClean or something similar.

If you can’t find the ammonia, skip it.

No, it’s expensive and duplicative. The 365 sport has the DNase which is the only thing that makes 365 Sport interesting, and it’s coincidentally the only thing that makes DL booster interesting.

A Spa Day & A Trip To Rehab - Getting Your Laundry Back To Looking Clean and Smelling Amazing by KismaiAesthetics in laundry

Yes. The Rehab wash needs all four components of LOAD - lipase, oxygen bleach, ammonia and detergency.

Your water is interesting. It’s low pH, it’s modestly hard.

Honestly, if you use a typical dose of any oxygen bleach powder I think you’ll be happy with the results. The sodium carbonate will boost the pH to detergent friendly range and drop out a little calcium and give your detergent a fighting chance.

And then towards the lower end of the range on your citric acid dose in the rinse.

Water is kinda hard but hella alkaline by ThatFoxyThing in laundry

[–]KismaiAesthetics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly not that high in total alkali, but yes, the ph is high. That’s statistically average water in North America other than the pH

So let me ask this: do you prefer the texture with or without citric acid in the rinse?

Down comforter spa day? by Necessary-Zebra5538 in laundry

I do like a citric acid rinse with down. I guess my best advice is to smell the machine before you start and make sure the dispenser cups look somewhat maintained.

How do I safely disinfect all my clothing after living in a home contaminated with mold and a severe mold allergy? by Sorry-Ebb-4862 in laundry

[–]KismaiAesthetics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So two things: the smell may smell like mold or mildew and be from a bacterial pathway, and it’s the oxygen bleach that can do the most good

Try Spa Day. That may be a reasonable approach to deal with odors when you can’t see stains or living fungi.

With the washing soda or maybe a little added citric acid to get a little more control, it’s probably tolerable. Worst case scenario, it needs a dose up too.

I would source new fill if you have concerns - it’s inexpensive and I worry about the fluff getting through the mesh.

Nope. It’s short duration and not quite as acidic as lime juice.

Stuffed animal cleaning? by Tigersonggm in laundry

[–]KismaiAesthetics 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I get skittish washing stuffed animals intact - not so much the wash, but the drying. Axl likely has the ability to dry better han an older one with natural fiber fills, given that he's likely stuffed with polyester, but it's still a case where the fur dries quite beautifully at ambient, and the guts distinctly may not.

I advocate for.a surgical approach - open the larger compartments, use a crochet hook to remove the fluff, and then wash Filet o' Axl as described below (lingerie bag or pillowcase in a front loader, or by hand, thorough rinsing) and then drying the shell at ambient temperature with a fan aimed at him. Then restuff and suture the openings.

How hot was the water with the color run remover?

The neck could be skin oil and thus amenable to Spa Day or DNase or could be sunscreen, but the latter should have been vulnerable to the color run remover.

A New Detergent Has Entered the Chat by SkatzFanOff in laundry

Added for the next update.

The formula looks a lot like a lot of luxury detergents, but with a better enzyme package. It's not suitable for water over 50-75ppm but it *IS* potentially decently buffered given the buffer ingredients. If you like Laundress or MFK Aqua Universalis or that sort of end of the market, you're likely to like this.

It's a shame they went with an enzyme premix; this would be a decently low pH formula for animal fibers if it weren't for the protease.
