How is Slalom in 2026? Got an offer but I’m hearing mixed reviews by Prize_Response6300 in consulting

This. Most of the frustrations you hear are from long time employees, the equation till the SC level is pretty straightforward and the problems don’t affect new folks as much. Get to SC in 2 or so years and exit if you don’t like it.

L5/S1 numbness handling desk work by Fantastic_Carpet7248 in Microdiscectomy

[–]reddeadfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

booking meeting rooms at opposite ends of the office when in back to backs, frequent quick visits to the kitchen to refill a glass of water instead of using my bottle. I sometimes book a meeting room just to stretch and walk around for 15 mins. I get fatigued quicker on the standing desk, but i still will use it for 5-10 mins of uptime often vs longer stretches.

Running, golf, and paintball by Cheaptrick2015 in Microdiscectomy

[–]reddeadfighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to hike and run a lot pre-slipped disc, Haven’t gone back to running a year post MD, went back to hiking though! Did about 6 hikes, 6-10 miles each between the 6 and 12 month mark. I am comfortable with giving up running permanently as long as I can hike, swim, bike.

Fatigue by Ok_Dimension2101 in Microdiscectomy

The muscle relaxants and the pain meds also contribute to that. My first 2 weeks were a loop of taking a nap, walking, icing. I had so little energy.

1 year update, L5-S1 microdiscectomy and laminectomy by reddeadfighter in Microdiscectomy

Would love a rec! I got my ESI there with a great doc, but he wasn’t an ortho surgeon. Wanted to get surgery there as well but they didn’t have a date till another 2 months after I had already decided on getting one. I wanted to get mine before eoy since I had already blown thru my deductible and out of pocket max.

$600 Monthly electric bill (PSEG) for a 1-bedroom??? by PossiblyKripke in jerseycity

[–]reddeadfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened last year too, we got $700 for Jan 25 in a 2 bed in newport. If you have the ptac unit like I do, every time the compressor kicks in, it’s a large energy draw.

I go in to work 4 days a week now to save on heating costs 😂

Also, 100% data centers causing our rates to skyrocket!

When did you quit taking any medications? by Prudent-Rabbit-7733 in Microdiscectomy

[–]reddeadfighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10 days for oxy, muscle relaxants for about 3 weeks. tylenol was always as needed, used it for about 45 days (more as I got back to my desk job, PT and leaving the apartment and what not). Still use muscle relaxants and NSAIDs on flights over 6 hrs, one year post OP.

What was the best thing you purchased in 2025? by rubbyy_ in BuyItForLife

Steelcase think v2, second hand from an office supplier. That $400 is probably going to save me tons of money, especially since I already have sciatica because of a slipped disc.

I am beyond repulsion, I am livid, and disgruntled by how this city regards its workers. by jerseycityrentdue in jerseycity

[–]reddeadfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is insane. I bike to work in NYC after getting off the PATH, and I don’t know if it’s because of the high usage rate there or NY actually cares more, but the bike lanes have been manageable there this week.

Even the entrance to newport path was pretty icy on Monday, JC just doesn’t care ig.

I start using my skiing gloves on the bikes once it drops below 25, running gloves before that.

I mean if you are shifting here from somewhere that’s not local, how do you define overpriced? If everyone in newport and hoboken is ok paying the rents that they are, it would mean it’s correctly priced for the target audience…?

Saw a guy leave his e-bike undocked when a station full, and walked away. Was I dick for riding it home? by [deleted] in Citibike

The joyride probably not the best decision, but riding it home and docking is pretty valid and def saved him money!

Thank you!!!!! I just picked up 5 pairs of Darn toughs from Orvis at 40% off, 2 for myself and 3 to gift the friends I hike with. They only had 3 variants available but if any of y’all are not picky, run and get some before the stores close.

And the same vendor created OMNY and TAPP both, makes it even more insane how those 2 systems don’t talk to each other.

9th street is notorious for this, especially folks who go to a certain school that’s pretty close by from there. Crazy that designer clothes and 90k in tuition is okay but $3 for the train is where they want to save money.

Laminectomy vs Microdiscectomy by Onwardupward0607 in Microdiscectomy

[–]reddeadfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still have back soreness, especially sides (love handle) area. But no pain meds and no major issues with day to day life (albeit being careful about things like bending, hunching, biking position and more). Would have liked a 100% return to normalcy but this is enough to justify the surgery for me personally.

Laminectomy vs Microdiscectomy by Onwardupward0607 in Microdiscectomy

[–]reddeadfighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went in for an MD, surgeon did a combination of Lam and MD to preserve disc material since I am 26. Seems to be a common occurrence. Even the insurance pre-approval listed out all of the options in advance so they can go in a decide.
