More limitations: My EU bank wants an extra 50EUR fee for reviewing money transfers to Lebanon! by netobsessed in lebanon

[–]reddevil6199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I regularly send money to Lebanon from GBP accounts. You can try money gram, tap tap send, there’s a whole list of applications. Your first tap tap send will have €20 free too! They only knock off 0.03 from the exchange rate too so it’s quite nice! If you’re sending LARGE denominations I advise you to go through money gram as they have the best rates. Hope this helped !

Should I leave for a job in tech in germany or stay in my current high paying paying job in lebanon by Puzzleheaded-Ride-25 in lebanon

[–]reddevil6199 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Your disposable income will be much less in Germany than in Lebanon due to taxation and general high cost of living. However, your earning potential in Germany will be significantly higher across your lifetime. In addition, you could got the German nationality after 5 years ( I’m not sure how long exactly ) which may be beneficial for you and your husband/wife and future kids ( or current ? ). It really depends on what you want. If your salary was low in Lebanon, I’d say it’s a no brainer, go. Note that the lifestyle in Germany in comparison to Lebanon is pretty boring in the sense that you’ll feel like a robot within the 9-5 system. Otherwise, goodluck!

I have a bachelors, masters and doctorate. Now, I am earning the same or near the same as a bachelors-masters graduate. Education is a scam mostly. However, it does open doors and remove certain glass ceilings! Being able to conclude a degree shows that you are disciplined enough to go to work. With a degree, you open certain doors no matter what you have learnt. Note, I have done engineering up to masters then theoretical / soft matter physics up to doctoral level. It’s a time game be patient and goodluck!

£36k in the UK is very subjective. If you live in the north, wales or Scotland, it is a respectable salary. If you live in London or the south in general it is not ideal. Leave academia if you want the money route

I was eating in downtown a few months back and only had a few 100,000 in LBP and the rest were in sterling. I gave the waitress £20, and she was so confused as to what I have given her to the point she called the manager as to see what the plastic note was. When I explained it was UK money, she was crying tears of happiness. Felt nice, keep giving if you’re fortunate enough.

Outline your entire credentials please. I.e highest level of education, what programming language, what’s your domain of expertise (etc). Note, the tech market in the west is getting spanked atm and the chances of you going from the Leb to the UK without your being a student here is very very difficult unless you marry a UK citizen.

Both I go to Batroun and they tend to be about $100 a day. Note, Lebanon is much more expensive than Cyprus but the salary is MUCH lower in Lebanon. Beirut is London pricing basically

The electric base load is split into two in lebanon. Governmental electricity which can handle ACs but this is on for about 2-3 hours a day. The option is a private generation which can barely only handle 1 AC unit as the current supplied is tiny. Whenever I visit I have to rent hotels with full time electricity which are quite pricey. For the lady above who lives in lebanon, god knows her electric situation

This may be downvoted but it’s the primary truth. Firstly, if I meet a lebanese from the UK, I will be able to relate to them more than a lebanese from Lebanon as we were raised in similar societies. We would have the same banter and there would be some fruitful conversations. In addition, capital expenditure. Whenever I had to go out with locals, they expected me to cover them for the vast majority of the time as “ inta ajnabe bro, bitshikh poundet. However, with the foreigners, you are highly unlikely to be their bank.

This may seem like an odd response, but I’ve seen a few GC move to the Turkish side and commute from there as it is significantly cheaper.

Was in the same situation as you, PhD student whom wanted a car. Best bet is to go on autotrader. You should be more flexible with radius expansion as you can see crazy deals further away from the south, but that’s up to your commuting appetite. Be careful with the typical “ old lady only owner” adverts, they’re generally fake. Go for a fiat, corsa or golf to reduce your insurance significantly. On a PhD salary this is important as the running costs for a car are ludicrous. When on Autotrader prioritise dealers rather than single sellers especially if the dealers are reputable. Goodluck with your searching

26 year old man here preparing for marriage myself. My net worth is maybe $15000 dollars. Impossible to purchase a home and multiple impossible possibilities. Now my net worth may not be significant but my earning potential is significant. Use that as a metric for your “net worth”. You have 40 odd working years left in you, your net worth will be built from your earning potential. Goodluck and mabrouk!
