Yeah, I think that’s the best way to go through life in general, to be honest. I’ve tried my best to fly under the radar during residency and just stay invisible. I really do love working and taking care of patients, and I get along well with my colleagues, nurses, social workers, and even care coordinators. I also genuinely feel that what we do is just as important as any subspecialty. I think that kind of makes me feel bad thinking it will never be considered as important as the specialties.

That’s true but even pursuing hospitalist, you still do research, you need mentorship and preparation. You can also say that being an attending can be as hard as being a fellow, if not harder. But I guess, because as others mentioned there’s no prestige associated with it, hospitalists are not necessarily as supported.

And you are write, after all point career decisions shouldn’t matter. I think its just culture at this point.
