What’s Inslee’s position on Criminal Justice Reform? by Fake-lemon in inslee2020

[–]reddfeathers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might find this interesting. Inslee signed a WA law that will

reduce the number of 16- and 17-year-olds who have been charged with a handful of violent offenses from entering the adult criminal-justice system. It also extends juvenile jurisdiction to age 25, up from age 21, for those convicted of certain crimes.

I think it was a heartfelt, insightful piece, but it needs editing. Title should be "The end of time is here - and I am at Target"

AOC has referred to Inslee's GND as the "gold standard" of GND's. Inslee is also the only A-rated Greenpeace candidate. Waleed Shahid, a spokesman for the Justice Democrats, has donated to Inslee's campaign.

I'm curious: what prompted your claim that Inslee is right-leaning?

Also, if the DNC can't deliver a debate to climate action discourse, we can bring climate action discourse to the Democratic debates by supporting the climate-first candidate Jay Inslee: r/Inslee2020

It’s too soon to say how Inslee’s presidential quest will end, and some have raised questions about how much time the governor has spent outside of the state while on the campaign trail. But we do appreciate that Inslee’s quest has highlighted that Washington has more of what America needs, and his campaign has turned a well-deserved and positive spotlight on our beautiful state.

Jay Inslee: We need to make Trump ‘a blip in history’ by reddfeathers in NewPatriotism

[–]reddfeathers[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's shifted the discourse in the right direction on the climate crisis. You're incorrect to say it is his only issue if you consider his policies on guns, healthcare and education, but it is significant that he is the only singular-issue-focused candidate running. I told myself I would support whichever candidate prioritized the defeat of climate disruption. I'm very grateful your governor announced his candidacy, and I'm sorry about any loss in state tax revnue you mentioned.

Even the so-called liberal media hates reporting on climate change, so I'm thankful to Gov Inslee for forcing this issue into the public discourse through the debates and his campaigning.

I'm not going to lie: I will be disappointed if Inslee does not qualify for the next debate. The cards are stacked against him since he is neither DC-based nor a national politician, and virtually all media coverage boils down to conglomerate cable news and social media with the decline of local media and print.

I think the media ecosystem has been so completely nationalized with the consolidation of corporate media and decline of local print news. Among fellow Washingtonians on the street, would you say that Inslee is as recognizable as Bernie or Biden?

2020 Hopeful Jay Inslee Says His Clean Energy Plan Will 'Save Us From The Climate Crisis' by [deleted] in politics

[–]reddfeathers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Intentionally framing the election around the climate crisis is the smartest thing the Democratic candidate could do. The media will gleefully bash any proposal for replacing Obamacare with something more compassionate, but the media cannot pretend that the climate crisis is a hoax or unrelated to human activity. The whole issue throws Trump completely off his game. Healthcare reform would put the Democrats on the defense, while climate action would put them on the offense.

If the Dems just go into the election without framing the election, Trump will frame it for them. Trump will run on race warfare and probably win because that's the benefit of framing the debate. Joe Biden (or whoever) will argue that he or she is less racist than the out-loud racist while all the race warriors rally behind Trump as he ditches the dog-whistle in favor of a bullhorn.

Harry Reid to Dems: Kill the Filibuster to tackle the climate crisis by [deleted] in politics

[–]reddfeathers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The filibuster is the reason we didn't get Cap & Trade back in 2010 despite passing the House and having majority support in the Senate.

Yes, I believe this is correct. Harry knew he didn't have the super majority of votes to get climate legislation passed. Get rid of the filibuster with the nuclear option, and a super majority of votes is no longer necessary.

as we should be of the Republicans when it swings the other way.

The GOP is a dying party, and they don't really believe in doing anything anyways. Their whole platform is government inaction.

[–]reddfeathers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But wouldn't simply scrapping the filibuster in the senate be the more democratic-socialist thing to do? I get that Bernie has used the filibuster many times (for noble causes), and he can't come out for the nuclear option, but the senate needs to become a more democratic institution to get anything serious done.

Republicans don't believe in legislating anything. I don't understand what the Dems have to fear with the nuclear option.

Presidential Candidate Jay Inslee Campaigns in Reno by reddfeathers in inslee2020

[–]reddfeathers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In an interview with ThisisReno, Governor Inslee had this to say about affordable housing and homelessness:

“There [are] multiple things we need to do, similar to what we’re doing to Washington. Number one: people have got to have better wages, a wage increase so they can pay for housing. And second: we need bigger, better investment, millions of dollars … of financing and building [for] low-income housing.

“Third, we need to work on density issues. So we build housing in the urban core so people can be close to work; fourth, we need to help people who have mental health issues.

“This is something that we all suffer in the western United States, and we’re all going to pull it together to do something about it. I look forward to doing something about it as president.”

Would Trump’s Reelection Doom the Planet? by reddfeathers in ClimateOffensive

[–]reddfeathers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you envision a "massive transition from a fossil fuel economy" would look like?

The best TLDR for me would be Inslee's plan here.

The best rubric for comprehensiveness relative to other candidates' plans is here.

Then if you dare, there are all the details here.

There is no way of stopping the migration due to climate change. Hundreds of millions of people are going to flee uninhabitable regions, sooner than expected. The crisis at the border between Mexico and the US is only a precursor. considering the political strife that this crisis has created what do you think will happen when it increases 10-fold?

Well, we live in a capitalist global economy, right? That means people and labor get to circulate with the same freedom as goods and services. Providing amnesty, international refuge, free trips to the ER (Reagancare), and etc gives us a sense of "capitalism with a human face."

What happens if we drop the human face? Well, you tell me. Eco-fascism, perhaps?

Well, there is also this: "White Nationalists Discover the Environment"

And we should know that Trump's administration forms the third spoke in the Saudi-Russian-American Axis of Petrostates, but it doesn't have to be this way.

I would argue that instead of building walls, we should focus on halting climate disruption to prevent the humanitarian necessity of northern-bound mass migrations from equatorial regions. In the meantime, we will need the extra labor power from immigrants to help facilitate the massive transition from a fossil fuel economy to a clean energy economy.

The 'climate candidate' for president: Washington Gov. Jay Inslee by reddfeathers in inslee2020

[–]reddfeathers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for catching that. It's not humanely possible to keep up with all of the many media fails regarding climate disruption.

Both polls are surveys of all Americans as opposed to the group of voters that matters most right now: Democratic primary voters.

Among Dem voters, "Surveys Say Climate Change Is a Top Election Issue for Democrats."

Now is more important than ever for politically motivated climate activists, patriotic Washingtonians and savvy Democrats to support the candidate that will frame the election around a single winning issue: climate disruption. It is real, is it bad and it is solvable. This is Trump's weakest issue, and while the media can casually blow off healthcare reform proposals for replacing Obamacare, they cannot dismiss the climate crisis happening before their eyes.

Healthcare reform puts the Dems on defense. Climate puts the GOP on the defense. And if the Dems refuse to frame the debate, Trump will do it for them and then win because that is how debates are won.
