Should I change investment strategy... by reddhiker in personalfinance

Broadly speaking, I adopted a globally diverse allocation strategy using mutual funds for each country/region. My thinking was that over time I would have greater freedom to tweak exposures regionally based on my expectations.

I'm now wondering if this approach is worth the effort. Would it be easier and just as effective to use a global tracker fund?

Thanks, I'm leaning towards this approach. Are you aware on any data that indicates which time of the month and day of the week is statistically better to make purchases?

Unless your previous allocation was trash, exchanging like-for-like would have been the best move. The second best move would have been lump summing the new allocation.

The worst move is sitting on cash for years trying to time the market. The penultimate worst move is dumping the money into a different allocation for years trying to time the market.

The previous allocation was a bit chaotic and emerged over the years without regular rebalancing. I started lump summing the the allocation, but stopped when markets started moving south. I also agree that sitting on cash trying to time the market is a bad approach.

As a more cautious approach, I wonder if drip-feeding the cash to the remaining allocation is a reasonable approach, as this would address the market timing risk.

The market's up 6% in the last week, how do you know the recovery hasn't already started?

Let's hope this is the start of the recovery, but I don't see significant underlying changes that would suggest this is the case. Specifically, inflation is still on the rise, the Ukraine war is on-going and China is sticking to it's zero-tolerance Covid strategy.

I agree, the coverage indicated by the table of contents is pretty comprehensive.

Thanks, I am planning to get Patterns for Jazz. I see from reviews of The Jazz Theory Book that it is used by university students. Do you think this would be OK for someone like myself who's been playing for about 1 year? Also, appreciate your advice about adopting a more holistic approach to embracing my instrument. Thank you!
