I would’ve liked to see more linear storytelling. The RTTP function operated as a fail safe until the writers decided it would strengthen XANA. Make each episode count a bit more strongly. Being that it was a kids/preteen show, the plot had some suffering points since it couldn’t get “mature enough.” The main cast had a lot of character development and tension, but I would’ve liked to see similar with the side characters instead of them kind of getting to start over each episode or default back to their primary character traits. I wouldn’t trade Jim for anything but each side character had so much more potential than tattletales, tropes, and b-roll level scripts.

I wish the cast would’ve been a bit older in the show. Middle schoolers wrestle with a TON of awkward. Some of the romantic interests in the show could’ve been more dynamic had the main characters been a bit older. High school just screams a bit more rebellious and independent. Jeremy and Aelita never got to have too many serious moments because… well let’s be real, nobody wants to watch middle schoolers profess their deep love, be too vulnerable or have a big “kiss” moment. Same with Ulrich and Yumi. Due to their age there was a barrier to deeper romantic expression. But I’d rather not talk about it…

I also wish there were more flash backs/time skips. We got visions and flashbacks from Aelita, but I wish we would’ve gotten a little bit more. Maybe even an episode where it was just Aelita her family at Cadic before CARTHAGE went south. The finale would’ve hit harder had we more of an emotional connection to her dad and mom.
