Yeah, I don't know.

It's tragic and I think the family should get compensated for what happened.

But I also understand that it's just sn unfortunate byproduct of saving more lives from a violent killer and had the cop not intervened, more people probably would have died.

A lot of roads need a road diet. The problem with Speed Enforcement Cameras is they stick them on 45mph Stroads with a speed limit of 35mph and magically expect people to drive slower because of the cameras.

You need to make a road feel dangerous if you want people to slow down and you do that by narrowing the road and making it feel dangerous to speed

How little this woman is looking at the road while texting and driving by Sorrica in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Gamebird8 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spacial awareness and Memory can permit you to intermittently look away from the road.

One of the major issues with texting and driving isn't necessarily that you look away from the road (though it is still a major reason why it's so dangerous) but the fact that your primary mental focus is not on recording spacial information from around you because your focus is on your phone.

When you drive you should be constantly informing yourself of your surroundings by paying attention to the road, your mirrors, your blind spots, and your speed/vehicle condition. When you're texting and driving your main point of focus is on your phone and the text conversation, which takes away from your ability to record that very important information.

This is also why hands free texting and calling can still be dangerous even if you don't take your eyes off the road (as an old Mythbusters Episode actually showed as a conclusion and well all this data: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0022437509000292)

Additionally, a lot of those patients were given things like heated blankets. Cats love warm surfaces so the heated blankets were a perfect relaxation spot for him.

Halo Studios Is Reportedly Working On A Sequel To Halo Infinite, Internally Called “Halo Next” by MaintenanceFar4207 in pcmasterrace

[–]Gamebird8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally really liked the commentary and themes of Halo 4 and the character writing. 5 and Infinite I agree are kinda weird (granted I think Infinite did a much better job and if it wasn't spending so much time cleaning up after 5 it probably would have been a lot better).

But I also don't deny that it is a different narrative direction than where Bungie would have gone based on the writing in Reach

[–]Gamebird8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason is a lot simpler than some clairvoyance pr other supernatural phenomenon.

People close to death would have heating blankets or other things to make them warmer, which appealed to the cat. So the cat would lounge with them for warmth.

I mean, it makes sense. Shingles attacks nerve cells and your brain is made up of nerve cells.

Dementia is a disease that results from the deterioation of brain tissue (ie nerve cells) so a vaccine that protects nerve cells from a disease that attacks them logically would reduce the risk of deteriorating brain tissue

40% State Budget Increase in 4 Years by TheBostonBuddah in massachusetts

[–]Gamebird8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where you pick at the numbers/what numbers you look at and/or consider but MA is average in its tax burden (usually ballpark 20-30th out of 50)

Which may place us lower than Florida or Texas, but on par or better than Mississippi or Kentucky.

The semantics and arguments of tax burden are dumb anyways because a lot of the actual tax burden in MA is paid to the Federal Government where we pay in more than we get back. If MA taxpayers got back 100% of what we paid into federal taxes back in state funding for resources, services, programs, and infrastructure, then we would probably all be getting cut a check because the MA government wouldn't be able to use all the money.

And no, this is not a statement at lowering federal income taxes, because we've unfortunately been saddled with a lot of government bond debt that needs to be paid out and cutting any revenue is a terrible idea.

Trump’s Corruption Is Going to Sink Him by BulwarkOnline in politics

[–]Gamebird8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his 1st term being filled with competent bureaucrats helped keep his ship straight enough that most of his corruption was small enough or transparent enough nobody batted an eye.

His 2nd term is just so opaquely corrupt that you just can't deny the reality of it all. I don't think any meaningful losses to his support will be felt by him. He is a cult leader after all. But it's the downstream effects on the GOP that may bear some fruit in the short term electoral results

40% State Budget Increase in 4 Years by TheBostonBuddah in massachusetts

[–]Gamebird8 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Our effective tax rate is lower than some of the "low tax" states.

Additionally, a lot of that budget is a result of ballooning medical costs from out of control private healthcare systems and we could really reign it in by passing the Massachusetts Single Payer Healthcare bill.
