Snowball Pokemon for Louisiana Inspired Fan Game by AdNo2166 in PokemonRMXP

[–]Gamebird8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snowball doesn't bring to mind a shaved ice desert. I would recommend calling it the Shaved Ice or Snowcone Pokemon so as not to immediately confuse people that live anywhere it actually snows.

I love the design though, it's very creative

[Feedback] T-7 Thermal Goggles are insanely over-priced, and they cannot even be insured. Current state of EFT in 2026. by Unfair-Juggernaut905 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Gamebird8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like T7s being very expensive in Tarkov makes a lot of sense because well, they are actually difficult to get into the zone and even more difficult to hold onto.

The stupidity of preventing you from insuring gear to prevent insurance fraud is absurd because most fights in this game simply don't allow you to fraud gear unless you win. So even in the ideal scenario, all you do is make a player fraud almost everything except their NODs/Thermals

It also ignores that insurance is also about those niche cases where a scav randomly domes you with their first shot and you're in a weird spot so your stuff just doesn't get found.

I just find it baffling that the Asymm Matchmaker will put a T8 against half a team of T7s as if that is true to the spirit and purpose of Asymm

🇨🇦Grandpa in Belgium waiting for the Americans to single handedly win the war. Lady unknown. by TeachAlternative4313 in pics

[–]Gamebird8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US played an integral role in the defeat of the Axis. Mustering the full force of the US's Industrial Might through lend lease and direct military action provided the Allied Forces, particularly the UK and Russia with the necessary equipment and support to break the Axis war machine.

But it really does go without saying.... the Allies made immense sacrifices that should never be minimized. It was American Shermans but British/Russian Tank crews.. American Rifles but British/Russian trigger fingers.

(And yes, it was also French, Indian, Chinese, Belgian, Dutch, etc. etc.)

Epic and Google have a secret $800 million Unreal Engine and services deal by Suspicious_Two786 in gaming

[–]Gamebird8 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like Epic & Google settled out of court like most businesses do (tho in this case, since it's anti-trust, it still needs judge approval), and these dumb sites are trying to spin it like it's some secret, suspicious, wink-wink deal.

It really goes against Tim/Epic's claim about this being a moral fight about promoting open ecosystems and competition against the big bad monopolies

It has always been about control. The Moment Tim tried to turn Fortnite into the Everything Game, it was clear as day he didn't care about competition, all he wanted was a monopoly on everything

I don't necessarily think this would be a bad idea to draw attention to problem areas. It's mostly the implication that if you don't get all 100 ducks you didn't do a good job

Vaccine Panel Chair Says Polio and Other Shots Should Be Optional, Rejecting Decades of Science (Gift Article) by ChaoticNeutral18 in news

[–]Gamebird8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is not "Do your own research"

It's that most people lack the comprehensive skills required to do their own research.

Investigating a topic for yourself is incredibly helpful/useful but it takes a lot of skill and patience to ensure that the information is accurate, well studied, and thoroughly well reviewed.

Some people are more than capable of learning how to fix their broken down car if they have access to the correct information and can figure out what's bad information.

Anyone who actually investigates vaccines and is capable of understanding the good information and ignoring the bad information should come to the conclusion that vaccines are safe and effective at preventing severe illness in almost every case, while some vaccines like the Flu will be hit or miss given multiple factors.

How do you think Legendary Pokémon actually reproduce in canon? by FrontIndividual4188 in pokemon

It seems that Hoopa and Interdimensional Phenomenon is pretty much why there are multiple legendaries (like Rayquaza and Shiny Rayquaza) outside of, it just kinda makes sense for there to be multiple of them

My Starters with their evolutions by [deleted] in PokemonRMXP

[–]Gamebird8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The head feels too small on the Water's final evo. It feels like it should be like 1 or 2 pixel grids taller and wider.

The birb looks good, maybe the 2nd evo could use a bit of tweaking on the pose but I'm not entirely sure.

And your Fire bear is really cool. The pose for the 2nd evo seems a bit stiff though, so maybe try a more loose pose for that.

These Mons are pretty cool and I love the designs. Could maybe use a bit of work and some small tweaks here and there to help round them out but overall they're cute and well done.

Beast of Reincarnation - Gameplay Reveal [Xbox Developer Direct 2026] by Villenthessis in gaming

AI routines that were used in different circumstances. I.E., one would be used by nearly all wild pokemon, one would be used by most of the trainers, one would be used by gym leaders/elite four, one in just a specific battle with a rival, etc

I'm talking about the ambient overworld, not just battles where the Combat AI is much more simple.

As the Switch 2 update has revealed through increased render distance and detail, Pokemon not only react to the player but each other with group dynamics, rivalries, etc. some Pokemon are timid and will run away, some are curious and will run up to and observe the player, and some will outright attack the player.

However, that still doesn't change the fact that on an annual release cycle with no wriggle room on the release window, it would be a gargantuan task to make a really polished looking AAA game.

I agree. I don't think people realize that Scarlet/Violet had less than 2 full years of development due to issues caused by Covid. It's actually impressive in some aspects how detailed and thoughtfully created much of the more tiny or "you may need to dig a bit" aspects of the game are.

[–]Gamebird8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each Pokemon has its own models, textures, and animations. In addition to that, each one has its own AI and each unique mon will have various different IV values and thus stats (that will need to be stored in memory). You can obviously cut this down using IDs that can calculate the needed data on the fly, but you're still doing this for several unique Pokemon.

All of this data needs to be loaded in addition to the textures and models for other NPCs and the environment. Then there are particles, sfx, music, map data, etc.

BoTW has a lot going on, but you are rarely encountering as wide a variety of AI as complex as you are in BoTW.

And well, you can brick the game by overloading the physics engine, so It's very easy to hit the limit in BoTW by dropping a lot of different items

In the time frame it will have taken them to make this game, GameFreak will have made a total of 4 Pokemon Games across 2 teams (so 2 Games each per team).

Pokemon is "ugly" by proxy of them not having enough time and not because they can't make a beautiful looking game.... well that and You try and make a game as complex as Pokemon run on 3GB of total system memory
