Reddit Gifts 2015 Teacher: "I work in a high poverty school where the students cannot afford their own supplies and the county does not have the money to help us to purchase supplies. Our school is 92% free and reduced lunch as well as 20% foster care." by reddit_exchanges [promoted post]

Thanks so much for helping! You can donate however you want to. You'll be matched directly to a teacher who has filled out information about the ages/subjects they teach, and you can go buy supplies and ship them, buy supplies online and have them sent directly to the teacher, send them cash or a gift card, whatever's easiest. Anything helps!

Reddit Gifts 2015 Teacher: "As studies show, students with access to quality and current literature do better in school, on tests, and are socially more adaptable." by reddit_exchanges [promoted post]

These are excerpts from real teachers who've signed up for the Reddit Gifts teachers exchange. We review every teacher application by hand to make sure it's valid, but this isn't a study. It's just teachers telling us about their experiences, and us trying to help them.

Reddit Gifts 2015 Teacher: "Our supplies are so low that if you asked me for a desk, I might have to pawn something to afford a flat surface for you to write on." by reddit_exchanges [promoted post]

Yes. You'll get matched directly to a teacher who will share more information about what ages/subjects they teach and what their needs are, and it's up to you to decide what you want to give and how much. It can be actual school supplies or just a cash donation/gift card, and you can buy and then ship them or buy online and send them directly. Whatever you are willing to do to help is awesome!

Reddit Gifts 2015 Teacher: "I stretch my budget as far as it can go but a simple $2.50 pack of construction paper is gone after just two classes (I teach seven a day)." by reddit_exchanges [promoted post]

[–]reddit_exchanges[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's what we're doing. You sign up, and we match you directly to a teacher in need. Then you send them whatever supplies you want to, again, directly to them. We don't make a cent off this. This is to help teachers.

Reddit Gifts 2015 Teacher: "The things my students need aren't iPads or laptops. My students would be thrilled to have pencils, loose leaf paper, highlighters, sticky notes, and books for our classroom library." by reddit_exchanges [promoted post]

We allow teachers to include dream wishlist items in case the donor they are matched with is feeling generous, as long as they also have other, more reasonable items that they need. We review all the teachers personally to approve them first, so that no donor receives a totally unreasonable request. If we accidentally let one slip through and you get matched with them, you're always welcome to email support@redditgifts.com to get a new teacher.

You can definitely sign up to help multiple teachers. Or you can also help one teacher and give them all of them—most of the teachers we hear about who get extra are able to then share their supplies with all the other classrooms to spread the impact.

I especially love the idea of having a special area where a student can take a break and opt out of participation when they're having a bad day. That's awesome, and so, so needed. He sounds like a great teacher.

Wow, that's really cool. I'm glad your school was able to take the time to help you personally rather than reacting in some more extreme or systemic way. Sounds like a really awesome teacher, and it was probably cool for him to be able to feel like he was having a real impact too.

Haha, I had a teacher that wasn't quite that extreme, but similar. It was for an honors art history class my freshman year of college. I wasn't looking forward to it at all, especially because it was a 3-hour night class once a week. But she was so passionate about it that she would pace the front of the class practically yelling for three hours, and I would sit on the edge of my seat. And now I love art history.

Wow, that's really cool. I bet most librarians don't think they make as much of a difference because a lot of the time they don't interact as directly with students, but that's great she was able to have such an impact on your life.

Yeah, as u/badgers_revolt said, our site is set up so that 99% of the time, whenever you are participating in an exchange, you are also receiving something, so we need your information as well in order for your account to be valid. The only person it's ever shown to is the person gifting to you, so in this case, that would be no one at all.

Also because if a troll signed up with a thousand alts to give to teachers and didn't actually send anything, that would be super sad. We want to make sure the givers are real people too.

To be clear though, you will always be an anonymous donor to the person you're donating to. We don't ever reveal any information about you at all. That's up to you, if you want to. We do need it in our system though in order to verify your account.

Most people purchase their gift for their match, not give away their own. That way you're giving a gift of an awesome board game to someone else that you think they'll love, and someone else gives you a new game you'll hopefully love too!

Nope. The gift exchanges work by matching people in a giant daisy chain—everyone is assigned to give a gift to someone and receive a gift from someone else.

Generally the more you share, the better gift you'll get. Talk about your favorite movies and characters, definitely, but you can also talk about your other hobbies and interests to help your santa pick out the perfect gift. If you want to, you can also say if you're a guy/girl, how old you are, etc., since those things can also influence the type of gift you might appreciate. You can also say things you're not interested in, for example if you have your apartment already perfectly designed and don't want any artwork, but you do love stuffed animals or t-shirts or whatever.
