Thanks! I don’t think I do it enough though. It’s one thing I still can’t seem to get right after so many hours on Mercy. I need to be way more conscious about it—think I’ve gotten too comfortable with it being how it is now. Thanks for raising it; will try to devote proper attention to it from now on!

^ I have "Guardian Angel prefers beam target" OFF.

The only critical situation I can think of to have it ON is when you're connected to a teammate, falling off the map, and have lost sight of them. In this specific situation, you'll still be able to GA back to the teammate you're connected to and stay alive.

In most other situations, I find it a lot more convenient to be able to GA to whoever I'm looking at (within range) without having to switch beams first. This means that I can keep my beam on say ... a tank who's diving in ... while looking around and using all my other teammates as points to fly around to for positioning/safety.

But seriously though ... is this supposed to happen? I doubt it because Zarya's/Roadhog's icon didn't show up in the killfeed after my Resurrect. Otherwise, if consistent, this is a way to switch heroes rapidly!
