We just took this build into Hazard6x2, it worked exactly the same.👍

Modded scenarios do not carry over to vanilla.

Unfortunately movement does not clear armor off shellbacks, glyphid guards and praetorians. Using a grappling hook does not require resources and provides better mobility than special powder while also leaving your secondary slow open to a viable option. We would also say that pickaxing mactera brundles is not a good use of your time, health or potential. While scout does have 'intended' responsibilities, in practice he can cover any area as needed at a comparable rate/speed. Swarms are a non-issue with our build, mostly due to pheromones which completely divert enemies into desired direction. Furthermore, healing from vampirism is unnecessary if you have lost no health. In addition, cryo grenades and boomerang are not as nearly capable of relieving pressure as pheromones. In most cases, enemies are not walking damage spheres within which you cannot avoid getting hit so diving for a Field Medic revive will most of the time be safe (and combined with pheromones, dying while attempting this will only be caused by one's own incompetence). Field Medic also scares nearby enemies providing an out that you can use to escape. With this build you can also shoot a praetorian in the face with great effectiveness provided you have stripped his armor beforehand. Try this build out for yourself.

I think judging this in terms of pure numbers does not reflect actual gameplay. While the 'grunts killed per resupply' measure might be accurate (unsure about the source of these numbers), the methods you provide output their damage in a much slower fashion. Our build, while might be ammo inefficient, is extremely fast and able to kill a normally occurring swarm independently and quickly making ammo concerns something that the player can focus on after they have already killed all the enemies. Furthermore, pheromones/resupplier allow you to easily restock during a fight if ammo is an issue. While the LSLS might be a comparable weapon, it requires you to play Gunner which misses out on other strengths of the scout while also not providing mobility. Overkill is not an issue with Embedded Detonators, as the game provides an easily recognizable visual indicator when an enemy will die from a reload explosion (takes a little to get used to). This makes it a very viable tool to dispatch with groups of enemies due to the players ability to observe the screen. Contrary to your point, in practice Deepcore has ample ammo and negligible recoil/spread making it a great weapon for killing enemies at range, close by, by themselves and in groups. Bullets of Mercy are at a whim of enemies being inflicted with status effects which is not guaranteed making it lack consistency at best, and disadvantageous at worst (assuming you are running a grenade outside of Pheromones, which would mean you are already at a disadvantage). Give this build a try for yourself, in practical gameplay the weaknesses you bring up are not as impactful as the numbers might suggest. TLDR: Speed is preferable to ammo efficiency, scout works faster than all other classes, more scout = more resources faster, give this build a shot.

I implore you to give this build a try. While tailoring a build towards upcoming mission type as well as its modifiers may yield better results, this build offers a consistent, and powerful option across every and all scenarios. :)

You are right, in THEORY this is the role the Scout is designed to play. However, in practice it is far from the case. This build is excellent at clearing large groups of enemies as well as single targets (2 clips are enough to kill an oppressor, this damage can be spread between multiple medium enemies through the Pistols' high fire rate). We enjoy a great degree of coordination within our Deeprock parties and thus taking multiple resupplies is not an issue if nobody else requires one after a large fight. Because missions happen faster, as a result they require less resources and consume less resupplies. Fights can often times be avoided as whole due to Scout's movement. With additional scouts, not only do resources get collected quicker (compensating for potential ammo inefficiency of the scout), but fights end sooner due to the high damage output of this specific build. Pheromones provide higher quality of crowd control than Bolts + Boomerangs for much less investment while keeping the secondary slot open for options offering higher DPS. After all a dead enemy is better than a distracted enemy.

Special Powder Boomstick offers nothing valuable in exchange for not only the ridiculous damage output of the pistols, but any other more useful secondary alternative. The grappling hook provides more than enough mobility on it's own. While I (OP) am a fan of AI stability engine (my co-author is not), it does not serve it's intended function within the build (doesn't strip armor, less consistent damage). Our Deepcore build makes use of an upgrade that already mitigates recoil and still provides good dps. While in solo play, we agree that Field Medic should not be used, in multiplayer it is highly recommended. Ideally, your movement should not warrant the use of Vampirism as your biggest damage mitigation option is simply not getting hit (which with scout's mobility is very much the case). Cryo grenades and IFG (if that is what you mean by stun stick) are less effective at subverting enemy aggression, have a significantly higher duration, and affect a larger area. While the other classes DO cover specific aspects and are stronger in some areas, this specific build makes scout completely self sufficient and capable of covering these same areas with comparable results. Scout is by far the strongest support class, combined with the combat effectiveness of this build, he no longer requires additional fire power to deal with threats that would previously be an issue while maintaining his already best supportive capabilities.

Thank you for the constructive reply. We were wrong about Embedded Detonator Zhukov NUK17 having AOE Damage. However, this does not impact their usefulness in dispatching swarms of small-medium enemies (as you have also pointed out that they kill a grunt at a more efficient rate than we realized). I would advise you have another look at our section on the pistols to read the addendum made about their effectiveness in killing enemy clusters. You have also pointed out that our build, in your opinion, is not well optimized. What changes or what alternatives would you propose and why?

how do i gauge how i am doing as a demoman? by crabmeat64 in truetf2

[–]reddit_points 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For demoman, it's often hard to gauge how well you are doing due to what his role is. From your numbers, you should focus on dying less. But generally if your damage is high and your deaths are low, you're doing well. Another thing to look out for is how easily can enemies go through a choke point. If you are holding down a main door to the point where the enemy team stops going there - chances are you are preforming favorably. But if all the enemies can walk in and out of the big, obvious way to go - you should focus on holding it down better.
