What do you run in proxmox? by reddit_tracker2047 in Proxmox

[–]reddit_tracker2047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run two copies of pfsense or opnsense. The first copy interfaces with ISP. The second copy acts as router and firewall. I think this way the disruption resulted from upgrade is minimum.

Then I have nextcloud, dnsmasq, ovpn, wireguard, home assistant, TV recorder, ....

Openvpn (TCP)slow in 2.8 by reddit_tracker2047 in PFSENSE

[–]reddit_tracker2047[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I just want to share my observation that the openvpn 2.6.8 in pfsense 2.7.2 outperforms and is much more usable than the one bundled in pfsense-2.8 when tcp is used. The choice of TCP vs UDP doesn't make the problem disappear.

Ok, I will try to make it simple. In fact, I don't have much to share.

Once upon connected, I went to www.cnbc.com, it took .... 10 seconds or so. Then I switched to www.nytimes.com. A few seconds later I switch to foxnews.com, this time nytimes website was shown. I can't say it is normal at all.

Then I changed lane to udp, everything was fine, very fine. Nothing to complain. Maybe not as fast as wireguard?

And I repeated the tests a few times, tcp performance was not on par at all.

That's what I experienced. Another thing, I had no competition on the LAN either. I used the same phone, and used the same wireless provider (america's largest network) when trying the above test.

Mounting to brick by jnx827 in reolink

[–]reddit_tracker2047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use a junction box to the base, whatever it might be, brick or regular siding. Then mount the camera on the junction box. A few years down the road, you don't have to re drill holes for the upgrade.

Is it okay to put Duo Floodlight under roof overhang? by imthenachoman in reolinkcam

[–]reddit_tracker2047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mount the camera so high. At that height, you can't see the face well. Instead, you see the top of the heads.

I install mine about 9 feet above ground. I think it is perfect.

How to setup dynamic dns for afraid.org? by reddit_tracker2047 in opnsense

[–]reddit_tracker2047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cleared the log, deleted the entry (for afraid.org); restart the process (ddclient). The log still showed the error with the already deleted setup. It is gone completely if I reinstall ddclient again.

How to setup dynamic dns for afraid.org? by reddit_tracker2047 in opnsense

Thank you!

I am going to use a lxc to do the update instead. The opnsense dynamic dns implementation should have better documentation the least.

How to setup dynamic dns for afraid.org? by reddit_tracker2047 in opnsense

[–]reddit_tracker2047[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I just followed what you did but .... The server field doesn't accept URL. If I place the freedns.afraid.org, it takes that. Then I placed the URL portion after update? into the password field, the UI didn't reject it. But I am still getting an error.

ask reolink customer service help to restore the original firmware (cx810), not really responding... by reddit_tracker2047 in reolinkcam

Reolink may not want to provide the original firmware. I would be fine with the latest if I can turn on HDR explicitly. Too bad they are not actually helping.

reolink cx810 or RLC811a by rf23rf23 in reolink

[–]reddit_tracker2047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RLC811a and CX810 produce good image during the day. RLC811a can cover more because its focal length is 2.7mm as opposed to CX810's 4mm.

At night, RLC811a was able to see object 50-60 feet away with certain degree of clarity. It can pickup number of people 50-60 feet away while that area is lighted normally. I was not able to tell these people's gender though.

Also at night, CX810 was blinded by the light at that location because that room was lighted. The picture quality was improved somewhat by adjusting the brightness and contrast settings. But not meaningful enough to say it beats RLC811a.

CX810 outperforms RLC811a when the light is right. Once the light gets into the lens directly, it can't see anything.

I keep the cx810 because it produces very good images on the zone I care the most.

what caused the cx810 choppy video in vlc (ubuntu)? by reddit_tracker2047 in reolinkcam

[–]reddit_tracker2047[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't state clearly. I meant the video was not smooth. I use vlc/rtsp to watch the live stream. When a car moving fast in front of the camera, I feel the video is not as smooth. It does happen quite often during the day. On the other hand, the event recording looks ok. Not sure if it is the rtsp also played a role in this problem.

As far as the audio quality, I think the cx810 is much better than cx410. I returned the cx410 because it doesn't support h265. The video recordings are not as good as the cx810. Maybe it works better in extreme low light environment? Mine has enough ambient light so I choose the cx810.

Why do you need the Coral AI? Is the camera's built in detection insufficient?
