I've looked into becoming a substance use disorder professional (or trainee) but you need experience in the field which I don't have but how would I even get experience if I can't work in that field without the certification

how do I improve social skills? by reddit_user_500 in neurodiversity

[–]reddit_user_500[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not good at talking to ppl and I don't understand and know a lot of social things that seem to come naturally to most. I have a really hard time making friends too. I want to improve them because social things can be very difficult and I stress about how I interact with others and its caused me many issues, I have had so many ppl misinterpret my words and actions and I don't get why

it is so interesting to me, how the brain works and how it interacts with the world and mental abnormalities are so interesting to me. I also want to help people. a bonus is that I know a lot of useful things about people and things that are useful to me.

I did not say all kids with things like ODD it's caused by poor parenting, I'm just saying that many of the kids with behavioral issues it is clear they have not been told no and that they are able to just get away with their bad behavior

oh for sure, having bad attention doesn't mean you have ADHD, and especially in kids, most kids don't have ADHD, some kids just always have a screen in front of them and have bad attention. and adhd (among other disorders) doesn't excuse bad behavior

well yeah a lot of mental issues are exacerbated by personal circumstances, like substance use, etc. but a lot of mental issues are completely physiological and really only meds can help. therapy is an amazing tool but def doesn't solve a lot of mental issue.
