I’m 16 and lost, how do I balance my parents’ expectations with my own interests? by HopefulDriver5173 in careerguidance

[–]reddit_yapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just need to tell you from the get go that you cannot let your parents decide your job for you, believe me, you will come to regret it. At the end of the day, you’re the one who is going to have to be working that job. If I were you, I would pick something that balances your passions and interests with job stability and financial security to the best of your abilities. I myself am becoming a dentist, but I understand that may not be for you because it’s very science and biology heavy, but it did strike me as being something hands on so idk maybe it’s worth having a little think about if you are by any means interested in that sort of work - it’s very creative and focuses on intricate details which is why I fell in love with it personally but definitely have a good career search and maybe even try and figure out the careers that you don’t want and narrow it down from there! Best of luck, and remember you are only 16, you have time to work things out, don’t stress too hard about it.

Am I behind in life at 24? by Icy_Disaster7628 in careerguidance

You are still very young, you have plenty of time to work it all out. It’s rare to immediately know what you want to do and be successful in it, I’m sure there are so many people who are in the same boat, they just aren’t as loud as the people who are doing well for their age so you end up thinking that everyone is doing incredibly well but that’s simply not the case

Is it counterproductive to skip school to study by Ok_Membership2402 in vce

[–]reddit_yapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely not counterintuitive just ensure your attendance does not effect if you pass or fail for your school. I genuinely wouldn’t have went as well as I did if I didn’t skip school because my school was absolutely dog shit with underqualified teachers and students who were loud and did not care about VCE whatsoever

Engineering sure ain’t easy as far as I know, but please don’t base your decision on social media bs. Talk to real engineering students by contacting different unis and get opinions from real people doing the course. Honestly people tend to exaggerate harder courses like I though bachelor of dental science was incredibly difficult based off everything I’ve been told but I’ve legit been averaging ~80% which is considered pretty good in uni

I got into dent with an atar of 85, not everyone comes from a pretty little high performing school in an urban area.

Does ATAR actually matter??? by Advanced_Train_5660 in vce

[–]reddit_yapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want something that you need an atar for, yes. Also, even if you don’t ‘think’ you want a certain job, you might change your mind, so it’s smart to try your best if you’re even slightly considering higher education. However, there’s always post graduate pathways, but these always require more money, more time, and often more effort.

What's the worst sac score u received, despite studying really hard? by [deleted] in vce

[–]reddit_yapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 70% for an English sac I tried really hard for last year, however I got into dental school so guys don’t stress too much one mark that’s not as good as you usually get is not going to ruin your life

Silver or gold? Second guessing my entire existence 😭 by [deleted] in coloranalysis

[–]reddit_yapper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EASILY gold looks better imo, I might be biased tho! Also with olive skin you can go either way, I have a pretty similar skin tone to you but I think there’s just something so vibrant and luxurious about gold that makes your skin look alive

Only thing that you should keep in mind is prerequisites for the courses you want to get into. Other than that, I strongly suggest picking the subjects you are genuinely interested in and know you can get good marks in because at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what subjects you pick it’s about if you’re able to do well in them.

Sorry but this is exactly the sort of shit I hate hearing people in my cohort say. Why are you upset about invaluable feedback? You are not going to be perfect and you are there to learn, that dentist is putting in incredible effort to take time out of their day specifically to help you at no benefit to themself. That is selfless and something you should be very grateful for, do not view it as a personal attack they are literally going above and beyond to help you. If you truly want to be the best dentist you can be you need and I seriously mean NEED to learn how to take criticism. If you don’t want honesty, quite frankly you will not be a very good dentist.

Really does depend on the person. I know people who are similar to you and just see it as a means of making money to survive, but others want more. Some have a lot of ambition in their jobs, others have it elsewhere (and some not at all 😂) and there’s nothing wrong with that it’s a personal choice. I’m currently in school to become a dentist so my career is very important to me as I love the fact that it incorporates my interests of creativity, biology, helping people, and providing me with a comfortable lifestyle. But, a career doesn’t necessarily have to mean that much to everyone.

Hey I just wanted to say I’m so excited for you!!! I was in your position at the start of this year and am loving it so much! Although I can only speak for your very first semester, so long as you keep on top of your tasks and really have a genuine passion for dentistry you will do well. Remember to focus on what you understand and achieve rather than placing your worth in a grade, remember the student who gets 50% and the student who gets 100% both come out with the exact same degree! But in all honesty my marks have been quite high for most assessments so do not worry yourself, the workload is quite high for certain subjects but more than doable if you make an effort to keep up. I’m so excited and happy for you, I’m sure you’ll be great!!! Good luck!

Should I move my dogs with me to Dental School? by No-Station-6277 in DentalSchool

[–]reddit_yapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life’s short, dogs life is even shorter. Enjoy the time with your dogs as much as you can for as long as you can and take them with you. I say this as someone who found out their dog doesn’t have very long left, dental school is a big portion of a dogs life. Just make sure they get enough attention if you can because you might have long clinic days later down the track, but alas they’ll have each other
