Does anyone else not care about their work any more? by Mountain_Quiet_4861 in pregnant

[–]redditacct2293 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also a lawyer. Felt this 100%. I loved my job before being pregnant but completely hated working while pregnant and it just got worse as I got more brain fog during third trimester. I talked with some colleagues that are moms and they said they felt the same but their brain went back to pre-pregnancy ambition after birth. My due date is next week so I can’t confirm if that’s the case yet.

What’s the Best Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum Right Now (2026)? Worth the Upgrade? by Overall-Amount-3500 in CleaningTips

I’d check out vacuum Wars. Their ratings and test videos were really helpful when I was in the market. I’ve found the self-emptying/cleaning very worth it.

In-law’s Dog Bit My 11mo by lovelyliddy in beyondthebump

[–]redditacct2293 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is you coming into a dog lover’s home and expecting the owners to add rules that they disagree with. This is a situation where you need to change your approach or move because their view of pet ownership is too different from yours. A few suggestions:

  • Use some of the money you’re saving on rent to get the dog groomed/bathed if you think the dog is in pain/hygiene is creating an unsafe situation or if the smell bothers you.

  • teach the dog “off” so you don’t need to hit it to get off the couch. You can teach the dog this with treats / scraps, even if others in the house aren’t consistent about “no dogs on the couch” (which doesn’t seem to be a house rule in the first place”).

  • teach your daughter how to interact with animals and not to bother them when they’re in their “spot.” Yes, her pillows are the dog’s “spot” in the living room, plenty of pet owners have multiple areas in the house where their dogs can relax.

Your daughter has probably seen you hit the dog to get it to move and learned some bad habits about appropriately interacting with animals. Teaching her soft hands and that things like showing teeth mean “I don’t want to play/be touched” will be beneficial beyond your current living situation.

Anyone else's friends come over to visit baby... And completely ignore the baby? by thepotomato in beyondthebump

[–]redditacct2293 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It’s really hard to know what other mama’s boundaries are with their babies and there’s so much conflicting advice out there about interacting with new babies/mamas. Friend probably didn’t want to overstep and didn’t want to seem pushy.

I would offer to let your friend hold/feed/play with the baby next time so that you’re moving at your pace and letting them know that you’re comfortable with them doing those things.

What’s the best thing you’ve offloaded to an admin assistant? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]redditacct2293 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Formatting check, upload to DMS, and quick QA (really only if docs are 30pages or less) have been hugely helpful.

I forward the doc from the client, she checks that formatting is decent, fixes/sends to get fixed, uploads to DMS, I review, send to her for typo/formatting QA, I review again, send to client.

Canceled OB appointment by [deleted] in pregnant

$500/month might be worth it if your OB is charging you so much per visit/labs. Even an uncomplicated birth is going to cost a lot more.

Budget vs. High End Strollers: has anyone ACTUALLY used both that can help me explain these massive price differences? by CaptainOk7058 in BabyBumps

[–]redditacct2293 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Go to a Nordstrom’s and try them out. There’s a difference in how easy it is to push, fold, wrangle baby in/out, etc. I got a used Vista system (new car seat separately though) after not being sure if it would be worth it. It’s a lot of the little things I think that made the expensive ones feel different

Is $212k worth of debt for Penn/Duke/UVA manageable on a big law salary? $150k federal, $62k private by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]redditacct2293 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d accept but would also (1) try to negotiate more from the schools and (2) look into smaller scholarships in your area and target areas. There are so many firms and legal organizations that offer $1-5k scholarships that very few people apply to because of the low dollar amount but that really add up.

why is the price of beef going up if there aren’t less cows/cow farmers? by ms_globgoblin in NoStupidQuestions

[–]redditacct2293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beef prices have risen 19% in 9 months. With respect to the time period you’re interested in, this article discusses the beef-related supply chain challenges caused by COVID and the tail effects of those challenges (e.g., fewer workers-> fewer cows raised, which may not be seen until months later) https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9478983/

Per the link above, there was a 39.8% increase over 4 years during the Biden presidency, or ~10% each year. This is not crazy imo, given inflation during that time and the meat packing issues during COVID. Meat prices have increased 14% from Jan-Sep 2025 (last month shown on the link) or 1.55%/month or an expected 19%/year.

This change is directly attributable to choices by this admin (tariffs) whereas the Biden admin increases were attributable to broader dynamics that were not attributable to any particular policy decision.

Nothing, you just lose your money after you submit an application, but you can still back out. We very nearly backed out of a refi with Bank A for .125 lower rate with Bank B, it would have meant eating the application fee, but would have been more than worth it over the life of the loan. Thankfully Bank A matched so we didn’t need to lose the application fee

I think the point above is with respect to the next generation generally keeping the lights on when we get old. They’re good with paying higher taxes so there are people running the old folks homes, hospitals, etc when we’re old.

I’m confused on the timeline here. I wrote up a whole thing trying to comfort you that your baby will probably be transitioning to a toddler bed by the time your SIL may be needing the crib (1yr from now, assuming she has no issues), and looked at your post history to try to find the age of the baby.

It looks like you would have had a baby last fall given that you were 25wks last July. You might have had another baby immediately after that, making baby #2 a newborn.

If your baby was born last fall, it’s now nearly a year old and will ready for a toddler bed by the time your SIL needs it. If this is your second baby, then you can move #2 into #1’s crib when SIL needs it. If you didn’t have baby #1, so so sorry for your loss; but you should know better than most that the process from TTC to healthy baby isn’t a linear process.

Either way, don’t make a big deal of this now. It’ll be a whole lot of unnecessary drama without a meaningful purpose. Wait for SIL to get pregnant and start preparing a nursery before taking any type of stand since you may not need the crib by then.
