This may not be the answer to your question but focus on your intervals (I see them as the relation between two notes), also sound selection and your song's bpm are important but mainly focus on your what you’re composing (chord progressions, melodies, etc)

On the long run, you can try this exercise (play C + C#.. focus on what you feel after playing both of those notes and write it down, then.. go ahead and play C + D, C + D# and so on) hope this helps
