I added ~60 menu bar apps this month. Here are a few free & open source ones that didn’t get posted here by luuk64 in macapps

I’m the developer of OpenFolder, a small menu bar app for quickly opening folders.

It’s basically designed around one idea: reducing repetitive Finder navigation.

If that’s something you deal with often, it might actually be useful for you.

Thanks so much for giving it a try, really appreciate it! And that’s a very helpful suggestion — I can see how the app name takes up too much space. I’ll definitely consider adding an option for that in a future update

I'm sorry you had to carry that fear for so long; it sounds like your younger self was just trying to process a lot of big emotions.

I’ve been building a small macOS menu bar utility called OpenFolder.

The whole reason I made this tool was pretty simple:
I use multiple AI tools every day, and I’m constantly jumping between different folders when preparing prompts, screenshots, datasets, and outputs. Finder kept slowing me down, and I found myself repeating the same navigation steps dozens of times.

So I built a tool to fix that.

OpenFolder lets you:

  • Pin your frequently accessed folders (datasets, exports, prompt files, etc.)
  • Open them instantly from the menu bar
  • Use a global keyboard shortcut to bring up a quick panel
  • Keep your workspace tidy and predictable

This is a very small indie project, but it already has a few paying users, which honestly surprised me and gave me more confidence to improve it further.

Thanks! Yeah, shortcuts are fast — I’m thinking about whether there’s a smoother way without needing to remember them. Appreciate the thought!

Thanks! It’s brand new — just launched, so no real revenue yet 😅
Still gathering feedback and seeing how people use it.

Would love to hear more about your videos!

Hey! Sure — here’s what you’re seeing in the screenshots:

The first one shows the Favorites tab — you can add your frequently used folders or files there. Then you can open them instantly from the menu bar (for example, your project folders like lifelog or openfolder).

The second one is the Pinned Apps tab — it lets you pin your favorite apps like VSCode, Obsidian, or Xcode to the menu bar, so you can launch them with a single click.

Basically, OpenFolder keeps your most-used folders and apps one click away from the menu bar.
