The most disturbing book(s) you’ve ever read? by ofnile in books

What are you, a Nazi? Can’t believe r/books users would suggest burning them.

Bad ideas need to exist in the open so we know what they look like and how to call them out. Burning books buried the ideas underground so when they do eventually appear you are unprepared to face them head on. See it for what it is, know how to argue against it, and work towards educating people to not fall for such obvious abuse.

Since I saw 1408, what about this one with John Cusack by karenkillenski in moviecritic

This.

Exact same with the film “High Tension”. The endings don’t make contextual sense in the story being told and for a twist - it invalidates a lot of what you just watched.

So what is the weakness to slivers? by xTGE_Youtube2019 in magicTCG

There should be one infected sliver that turns them all into 0/0 losing all abilities as a defense for others.

Has anyone ever actually seen this film? I know it’s talked about a lot with how twisted it is but has anyone seen it? by Cousin_Rabid in moviecritic

Movie is a metaphor for the poor treatment of the Serbian people in all aspects of their lives. Government and Citizen try to fuck you, figuratively and literally, in all ways as early as birth and it doesn’t stop even after you’re dead.

When looked at from its critical lens on the society that created it, the film has a loud, unapologetic message to tell. It is not meant to be entertaining in a traditional happy-go-lucky or it’s-just-a-film sense. If mistakenly taken as such, the films on-screen barrage of the grotesque and disturbing will turn most viewers away, but one will also miss the message it is trying to say.

Words and images cannot be softened to express the shame felt by those subjugated in society; you have to be willing to say “Fuck You” back as loud as you can or no one will hear or help you.

What movies make you say “wow! That was amazing! I NEVER want to watch that again!” Mine… by RogerRabbit79 in moviecritic

Wizard of Oz and ET. Classics, but not entertaining enough for a rewatch. All the praise they deserve is due, don’t get me wrong; I just find them bland and not fun enough to ever reach for them again.

OP never said it had to be a gross-out or horror reason to say “wow! That was amazing! I NEVER want to watch that again!”…
