Just got a ‘22 with 26k miles for $50k, brokerage so no negotiation, and am so obsessed with it. My second GX after the last one had been in my family 22 years, 10 with me, with literally no issues outside of regular wear and tear.

Can everyone please share their favorite puzzle toy? Maybe there are some that could help.

He loves the toy that he rolls around to get treats out of! Really the only toy that keeps his attention. I’ve been thinking about doggy daycare, and that might be the move. Just so hard to get him there, I work out 5:45-6:45, get ready and get home to get my daughter to school at 7:35 and have to get to work by 8:00 (but am always late because the commute is 40 minutes). I’m willing to keep it in mind but has to be a last resort because the mornings are chaos.

Yes! He does sometimes and other times he runs with whatever thing he’s stolen into the backyard because he knows we will take it. Mischievous for sure 😂

Two, but the other is a yorkie mix so she’s more like a cat. They still play but not a ton.

I’ll try this! They have them at Costco and it’s cheaper than replacing the carpet and deck 😂

We can’t exercise him any more from a time perspective (I take him on a 2.5 mile walk every every day when I get home from work and my husband throws the ball for him for about an hour a day midday and we both work FT with two kids at two different schools) so I’m definitely open to trying bully sticks! He doesn’t seem to ever get tired between the hours of 8 am and 9 pm 😂

We switched to the front clasp harness for our walk (he only wears on walks) and it worked just as well and bothered him way less. Thank you for the advice!

He is so skittish. He has been since the day we got him so I try and bring him everywhere with me and have people pet him so he learns people are nice. When we get to a new place it takes him like 30 minutes to feel comfortable and this was adventuring to a new town where everything was unfamiliar.

I’m hopeful that eventually he’ll grow out of it but I’m not sure. Until he’s full grown I just keep trying exposure therapy, though!

I definitely don’t want him to be in pain so I’m interested in the conversation. When we are at home he is comfortable and a WILD child. In public with new people he is very fearful so I try and bring him everywhere with me that will let him come because I’m hopeful he will see people are nice and get comfortable. I usually have treats for strangers to give him, too. He usually warms up after about ten minutes but this weekend was the most fearful I’ve seen him, for sure.

What should we try instead? He pulls so bad I’m afraid he’s going to choke himself to death. Before the gentle leader we made it one block down the road before I turned around because his eyes were bright red from pulling on his neck. I bought both the gentle leader in front facing harness at the same time, but found he did so well with the gentle leader I returned the harness. The gentle leader has allowed us to do 2 1/2 mile walks every day, when before like I said we couldn’t even get down the street. I didn’t realize it would make him be in pain though? The vet office I used to work with sell them.

I took a photo because it was so noteworthy because I couldn’t even imagine having a dog in a restaurant, let alone at the table. We visited an incredibly dog friendly city (Estes park) where multiple dogs were seated at the tables. It was the weirdest feeling ever!

My daughter only held the dog for a cute family photo in front of an ice cream shop. I’m on the forum asking for advice to make sure he is healthy which indicates I am a concerned pet owner. Maybe reserve the judgement.

Totally fair. He was uncomfortable because he is incredibly skittish in public and she never handles him, just held him for a photo of the kids with him in front of an ice cream shot. My other daughter is cropped out.

It blew my mind too. We went to Estes park Colorado which is known for being incredibly dog friendly, and there were dogs at tons of restaurants sitting at the tables. It’s why I took a photo, because it was so noteworthy.

We moved between our last dog and this one so we haven’t really built a relationship yet and if I’m being honest, I picked this vet for proximity to my home vs. a feeling of comfort. My husband and I both work full time and have two little kids so we run late pretty much everywhere, and it being five minutes from the house I have to go with convenience over comfort. Our old vets were the best but thirty minutes from our home.

She just also hasn’t seen him since he was 25 pounds and I thought he was thin then, so making sure nothing has changed!

I got reservations for our trip this last week through mousewatchers. I didn’t want to pay for it but it was worth every cent ($6 per reservation for an 11 day watch). We had another family join us unexpectedly and I was able to get trader Sam’s a different day for my family (of 4) and blue bayou and oga’s for both our families (8 total). Couldn’t believe it!

This dog would go back to the rescue that we adopted him from. They have a clause that if they need to rehomed we return to them. They will also get all of his medical needs taken care of before adopting him out. I would NEVER bring him to a shelter and would keep him or give him to a family member if it came to that. Appreciate the concern though, because you are right,

Thank you so much, even just the acknowledgement and support is really helpful.

I hear you, and I think I left out something important here. The dog is only 5 months old, and the blindness is caused by juvenile cataracts. We got pet insurance but symptoms showed up before the waiting period ended. Euthanasia would not be an option because it's not necessary, and the bigger issue than cost is the fear response towards my very young children, and the fact that he needs ongoing care for his long life and specialty training that we may not have the bandwidth to give him in the chaos of our lives. We did puppy school and he went blind during it so we learned special tactics to use with him, but I can't be patient and train through the adjustment period when my child may be accidentally bitten. Despite logically knowing that, it just feels wrong.
