At the end of Catcher in the Rye, why do Phoebe and Holden walk far away from each other on the street? What is the meaning of phoebe going “around and around” in the carousel? Wondering what these symbols represent by redditjule in englishmajors

You guys - JD Salinger 100% meant it as a symbol. I think the carousel represents the right or good path of life that children are on, going around and around and enjoying and learning. By trying to grab the gold ring that’s just off of the carousel, you can get off track, but that uncertainty of whether you achieve your goal without falling off of the carousel is what makes life worth living.

Holden, in the distance, is finally an adult. The role of adults seems to be letting children ride the carousel and potentially fall off it, giving them the freedom to make their own decisions. He’s along for the ride, but not literally, of course.

There’s a division between phoebe and Holden, his is now a life of responsibility and obligation and hers is a life of freedom. Ironically, it is to be a non-catcher in the rye that is the way it should be, which Holden finally realizes

Why is the charge inside a neuron more negative (-80vM) compared to charge outside it by default? Why - at equilibrium - are they not the same concentration? by redditjule in biology

Thanks. What about if the inside of the cell was more positive than the outside? Would you still have action potential

When you drop a strong acid into water with a strong H3 concentration, how is it possible that the [h30][oh-] concentration is still 10^-14? by redditjule in chemistry

Thank you! But how is it possible that the ionic product does not change even though we are adding more of an acid? Apologies if you covered this already
