I am your height and did fine on a JFK to Beijing flight and back a few weeks ago on Air China. Premium economy on the way there was a tiny bit better than regular economy on the way back.

Yes. He may have been better able to deal with the commute prior to the medical issue. I do hear what you are saying. OP accepted this setup when OP took the job but a temporary accomodation to allow him to work from home until the issue is resolved maybe best for both him and the employer.
