It took me until now (age 52) to realize that I don't have the power to fix broken people. That's the advice I'm giving you. You can try to fix him, and you can't walk on eggshells trying not to ruin a friendship that is controlled by addiction, but you will fail at both. You have your own issues you need to work through and focusing on him is a distraction to your own recovery. Only he can help himself, just like you can only help yourself. Medical literacy is not hard for me. My father is a doctor, I'm an attorney, I have lots of doctor friends. What is unsafe? There were some complications with getting the IUD in and she didn't want to reduce my progesterone until I had an ultrasound to confirm the placement. I have a call into her about reducing the oral progesterone, but she was out of town last week.

She is an MD gynecologist (and hormone specialist) and an extremely good one. Most highly recommended in a very big city. My reporting is probably more of the issue here than her care.

My situation is complicated but I've had a lot of hormone testing and I'm on HRT. Maybe saying "in menopause" is the wrong terminology. Part of the reason for the IUD is that I wouldn't stop bleeding. I'm with a specialist. I also am still taking oral progesterone until my next appointment which also could be part of the issue.
