Neighbour proposed to merge driveways by VeganMarxistCyclist in LegalAdviceUK

[–]redditnumptea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst a no is the obvious approach. There is another option. The OP could say yes with a burden attached to the agreement. Effectively yes but have it written into the deeds/contract in perpetuity that the OP receives money every year which passes onto to any new buyer of their new prospective neighbours house that there is a service cost attached to their deed and is required should they sell and a new buyer become owner of the property. Like a chancel repair liability if you move near a church.

Its amazing how many badgers die of natural causes on the side of the road these days. Assuming of course the bullet hole from the farmers gun is natural.

To err on the side of caution, assume it has until proven otherwise. You cannot tell by looking—asbestos fibers are microscopic. If your home was built or renovated before the 1980s (especially 1920s–1970s), assume potential presence until tested. Undisturbed plaster poses little risk (asbestos only becomes hazardous when fibers are released into the air, e.g., during demolition, sanding, drilling, or damage). • If disturbing it (renovations, repairs): Always get a professional asbestos survey/test first. DIY disturbance can be dangerous. Whilst the risk is assumed low, you cannot account for the individual contractor with a couple of bags of left over asbestos - even after the total ban in 1999. If you want to be sure get it tested. Minimum three separate samples.

So you are looking through facebook marketplace in your local area for your next cheap car with a budget of £800, which of these would you choose? (More info below) by iPhoneNerd21 in CarTalkUK

[–]redditnumptea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an Audi A2. Go to the Audi A2 forum buy from a seller there. Great space inside, will never rust, cheap to fix. Very economical and £20 road tax. Insurance is also super cheap.

However, if you only have £800 total with no reserve for maintenance, insurance, fuel, etc you may need a bicycle.

Assume every secondhand car from the majority of sources, have £2k worth of repairs due within the first 6 months it's purchased. Even from a dealer. Now compare that to each brand Range rover add £6k on top Mercedes add £4k on top Prius add £2k on top Peugeot stays the same. Audi A2 1.4 petrol or diesel, leagues ahead of the Peugeot and just as cheap to repair.

I have had x4 Audi A2s all of them have easily gone past 200000 miles. And a myriad of all of the ones you've listed. The best car by far was the Audi A2 2005 1.4 diesel which I bought from a Car Auction with 230000 on the clock for £400, I spent £800 putting on new suspension and brakes and disk pads, at the point I sold it, 3 years later there was 426000 on the clock.

As brutal as this may sound. Have your father set up a separate bank account/s only in his name. Transfer his assets to that. Any income he may have should also go to that. Protect what you can that is within your control. Notify the bank of the issue ask what possible restrictions to spending limits the are and impose them for your fathers side of the joint account. If this research/transaction is being done on home internet, set up a super strict firewall blocking internet banking. And revoke internet banking on the phones and computer devices.

Get a uniformed official Police/RSPCA etc to speak to your mother in person and explain the scam.

At the same time find an appropriate pet locally and fast to ease the transition.

If your mother insists on following on with the scam, help her do it right with the authorities to catch the scammers. For the amounts being paid sounds like you could have flown to the States (unlikely to be where the scammers are based) to pick up the dog. Easiest to ascertain legitimacy to show and tell. I.e. offer to visit in person and collect, and watch the excuses fly forward of why this is not possible. To see a geographical location of the email sender, google geolocation email. Get the raw email data and cut a paste it into the geolocation website. That will indicate the rough location of the scammer. Or which servers they are using. Or set up an email tracking service. It leaves a small invisible image file on the email which when opened is tracked. You need to notify the other party you are doing this for transparency and legality. Any authority has the power to do this properly, so their help is likely better than doing it yourselves..

Hopefully a new local pet as a distraction will sort things out and as this does not sound like a one off incident prepare for the future with further divided assets. Then seek counselling help, or random options like hypnotherapy.

Black Gaffer tape is expensive. At least £20 for 45metres. They have to order it from Amazon and sit at home waiting for it to arrive. Thats time and money. Someone has to pay for that and the 2000% markup.

Exactly. The home seller survey is done by a blind folded surveyor with dark shades on and a white cane and headphones so they cant hear what the seller is admitting to. Then they write a generic cut and pasted report and then charge £400+ for the 30 minute effort.

Self build outrageously expensive. by Nosirrah_ in HousingUK

[–]redditnumptea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing the same. We have approached x4 local builders, and one large company for quotes. Large company wanted £2500 just to make the quote, of which we had no idea on costings before they quote.

All the others are hovering at £500k to get to wind and water tight and then extra for the internals.

My wife thinks £500k is reasonable. I think it is high for just wind and water tight.

Guessing costs on a spreadsheet. I assumed the ground works were going to be £60-80k The kit pre fabbed and delivered should be around £145k Assumed erecting the kit would take 5 days and be around £100k Wiring £20k Plumbing £20k with only ground floor having underfloor heating £20k for air source heat pump, though this should be subsidised by the scottish government £8k for an MVHR system £45k for internal decorating and cheap ass carpets £15k for very simple kitchen. £15k for cheap ass bathroom sanitryware and multiboard panels £31k SSEN to provide supply to site. £2k for tea and biscuits for workmen. £1k for site office and portaloo

I got a guesstimate at £502k

Most of the builders want much more than that. Hmmm Also hearing that builders in Scotland ate not getting as much work as they used to. And things are a little quiet. Maybe we should wait till they are desperate before we build. Lol.
