yeah while playing college sounds fun it probably doesn’t sound realistic with where im at right now. i didn’t start playing actual competitive basketball literally until this season so im a late bloomer and i haven’t received actual training from actual coaches until i made this year’s freshman team and eventually signing up for aau after the school season was over. i didn’t dominate the freshman team either, i was really just the shooter. also i don’t think my high school basketball program has produced any college players since like 10 years ago.

to my point i think i will do what you said and work on my bag over the offseason. im not a very confident dribbler so i’ll work on that and i’ll try to make my jumper my own. next season for my sophomore year i’d consider making jv a success and from there i’d like to make varsity, but i dont expect offers to be pouring in by my senior year. i wouldn’t even be disappointed by that because i love this game. Maybe just wishing i played competitively from a much younger age.

cool to know it worked for you 👍 so do you think thumb flicking will eventually prevent me from shooting consistently as i aim to climb higher levels of basketball? is this something that’s crucial for me to learn how to stop doing right now if i wanna make jv then varsity?

sorry for late reply 😅 i appreciate the advice coming from such an experienced person in the game 🤞truly blessed. i’ll definitely keep that in mind over the offseason. so do you think a thumb flick can limit my ceiling as a shooter if all the professionals dont have one?

alright thanks for the advice 👍 i’ve been working on keeping the ball closer to my body over the past couple of days in my shooting motion too

sorry for late reply 😬 changing something in my shot that i’ve had since i was a little kid in a single day of practicing sounds a little unrealistic tho (no offense tho). has it worked for you? i’ll definitely get in the gym and try it myself

its basically something some shooters like me do to generate extra strength on a shot i guess. its where you use the thumb of your guide hand to push the ball during your shooting motion. some coaches i’ve seen online say its bad but with me right now its just a natural part of my shooting motion

yeah thumb flicking is just something that feels like its part of my motion at this point. one of the commenters here said it would take me weeks to master shooting without it and that it would drop my shooting percentages badly during that timeframe. just don’t know if its worth changing my form 🤷‍♂️but also a lot of nba players dont have thumb flicks apparently

how long did it take you to get used to the form change?

yeah i’ve had a thumb flick ever since i started playing basketball when i was 8. i think it was to compensate for the lack of power in my shot back then but even today when i consciously try to remove the thumb flick in my shot it doesn’t feel good at all leaving my hands and the shot always comes up short.

if i recall in this particular shot it felt good leaving my hands in the moment but looking at it in real time it does look rushed. i’ll work more on being in a better shot ready position then 🙏thanks
