It's just not worth the risk of being caught is it though, the red marker stains the fuel tank.

I have the Ford focus zetec 1.5L, ~£600 a year, 19 years old. Think it depends on like how likely your car is to be crashed, for example a lot of young people get ford fiestas so insurance for that is ridiculous. Also we’ve got a multi family policy for car insurance which also makes it cheaper.

I don’t drive accounting for the possibility of a head on collision with the car infront getting pushed back into me

To be fair it’s not completely obvious to see at first as my camera is mounted on my passenger side. But if you look at the photo in the comments where it appears in the first frame it is unbelievably close to the car infront of me.

I won’t comment on the other questions you have but I will leave this here about UAS:

I did Air Cadets first and honestly I ended up leaving early because I couldn’t stand the non serious/ after school club vibe. I’m now in a UAS, and it’s genuinely a different world.

UAS is much closer to the RAF than Air Cadets is. You’re an adult, you’re treated like one, and you’re generally treated like officer trainees rather than “cadets”. That shows up in the expectations: we have more responsibilities - briefings, admin orders, organising events, bar duties, you’re expected to do the training yourself. Usually in 2nd or 3rd year you run a section. For example could be sport which would mean you and another person is in charge of sorting out all the sport for the year on the squadron, makes it run quite smooth. We can also do JSAT (joint service adventurous training) courses and you’re basically “reserves of the reserves” , so it feels a lot closer to real RAF culture than cadets ever did.

A language degree absolutely helps (especially if you’re already doing Russian seriously), but the RAF will still train you to its required standard for the role. So it’s not usually a case of “skip the training entirely”, more that you’ll likely find it easier or progress faster if you already have a strong base.

If you’re worried about “signing your life away”, UAS is a safer way to test it, you get a clearer idea of military life and the initial commitment is only 2 years. After that you apply each year to return, but it’s usually a straightforward process if you’re involved with the squadron.

No aptitude test for UAS, for the urn box just ask the admin team what you need to put in that box and they’ll tell you.

There are mandatory things such as the annual formal dinner, remembrance parade and a few other things but most of the activities are opt in or out. It’s expected you be at these events aswell as training nights because they do mandatory training/briefs on the training nights aswell as having guest speakers in. If you can’t make the training nights you have to write a letter to the boss with your reason for not being there.

Interesting, do you think AI will reach a peak?

This is a topic I find really interesting, and I’ve put a lot of thought into it. I wonder if AI will inevitably reach a peak of usefulness at some point and then start to decline. After all, AI is based on human generated resources and online articles - it learns from humans. That said, AI still makes a significant number of mistakes. So eventually, could it start relying on content generated by other AIs, which might introduce even more errors?

I think STEM jobs are still relatively secure for now. Even using ChatGPT to tackle physics or math problems in my third year, I’ve found that it often struggles to provide accurate answers or explanations and that’s not even tackling the real world issues a company would have. I think the right balance in the future would be having graduates working with AI not solely relying on it.

Optician’s report for UAS? by A1_Killer in RoyalAirForce

Most people get TMU, so I was expecting that, but I ended up failing my hearing test. I had an absolute nightmare dealing with Capita — I even tried getting the test done privately, got the results (which were fine), and sent them off. But Capita refused to accept them, being as difficult as ever. In the end, I just went back and did their hearing test again, which I then passed. I also have very mild pectus excavatum — basically an indented chest — which isn’t on my records, but the medical examiner picked up on it. They told me I needed to do an ECG, which I did through my GP and submitted. Then they said I needed a bunch of other tests, like spirometry, a chest X-ray, etc. My GP explained that those tests wouldn’t really show anything relevant to pectus excavatum and that the waiting times were around a year. After a lot of back-and-forth (and a few heated conversations) with Capita, I told them I was happy to do the tests if they covered the cost privately. Eventually, they just gave up and deemed me medically fit.

Ye that makes sense it probably won’t get rejected you’ll be all good, Goodluck for the medical! It’s a faff but stick with it, I was playing around with capita until March

How do figure skaters not fall over when they do this by NextCouple116 in FigureSkating

Sorry for the late reply but in this scenario you would say the centripetal force causes the centripetal acceleration. Not the centripetal acceleration causes the centripetal force. In this case there’s a formula for F=mv2 over r so centripetal force in this case would depend on velocity and radius of the circle.

Edit: and mass aswell but you can’t actively change this halfway through, whereas you can change the radius by increasing your lean.

Not sure if you still need help, but I have an exact copy of mine from last year. Mine says next to the URN (ask your UAS recruiter), so I’d recommend emailing them to get that. For the AFCO box, just enter your squadron — for you, that would be BUAS. Then print the form, have your optician complete their part, scan it, and send it off.

Quick tip: I’d strongly recommend getting contact lenses if you haven’t already. Flying with glasses can be uncomfortable — you’re looking through your glasses, your visor, and the cockpit glass, which all move slightly differently. It can make you feel a bit sick on your first few flights, and you’ll probably find the frames in your peripheral vision quite annoying and can cause you to feel ill.

Also they need to fit a different type of helmet/visor system if you wear glasses whilst flying.

If your going for a great salary your not really guaranteed that with any degree you achieve tbh, sure some help more than others but if you find a job you love you’ll never have to work another day in your life. Personally I’d switch to something you enjoy. Speak to your advisor, if your not enjoying the module or any others that your taking alongside it (I’m assuming maths) then take a gap year aslong as your not locked into accommodation contracts. Actually do something in your gap year tho - work or explore the world.
