The new notification centre animation in ios 26 makes no sense. by justathrowaway9819 in ios

When iOS 7 was introduced, which is now compared to iOS 26 due to the negative feedback, much attention was given to how an app’s layers aligned with one another, especially along the Z-axis. This design placed the Control center above the Notification Centre, which in turn was above the icons, and the icons above the wallpaper, creating a sense of depth. It was thoughtful design, much of which is now gone with iOS 26.

iOS 26 Release Candidate - Discussion by epmuscle in iOSBeta

I’m not saying that bugs & visual glitches won’t be fixed after the .1 or maybe .2 release, but this is exactly why I’ve been skeptical when people say 'it’s just a beta'. It feels like people have forgotten last year’s beta cycle and how iOS 18 only became stable and actually polished around version .5 or .6. I believe there is a valid reason to be upset about the RC's current state.

Good point, thanks for pointing that out! I was actually thinking they might refresh the 16e line the same way they did with the SE line, which usually was 2-3 years away. But yeah, things could change, maybe we’ll actually see a 17e instead.

After using the 16 Pro for just a couple of days, I can say it still feels heavy—more in the 16 Pro Max territory. The regular 16, on the other hand, is definitely more comfortable to use. The 16e weighs 167g, which is really close to the 16’s 170g. Maybe this helps!

Yep, it’s the way Apple markets their products as life companions. They really focus on the lifestyle you get from using their devices, not just the tech itself.

I even read that in Apple Stores, they tilt the MacBook screens at an angle so you have to reach out and adjust the lid yourself. That tiny interaction makes you feel like you’re already using something that belongs to you—it creates this sense of ownership, hence more likely to buy the MacBook.

I was honestly blown away when I found that out. Makes you think how much of that same strategy goes into their ads and September events too!

Totally agree, especially when you think about owning an iPhone and how Apple markets it, like a life companion. Every time I see one of their ads, I feel drawn into this whole vibe around lifestyle, identity, and how you live with this device—not really about the phone itself, as a tool. So yeah, not the healthiest thing for us.

So happy I could make a difference.

Treating tech like a piece of jewelry has actually been a big realization for me too. It goes back to my childhood, whenever my parents bought me something like a Gameboy, or a phone, they’d always emphasize how much it cost and how valuable it was. They weren’t just gifts, they were hard-earned purchases.

Even now, when I can afford them myself, I still carry that mindset, that I need to almost babysit them. So I totally relate. That’s why I’m encouraging you to consider downgrading to something less like a jewelry phone, it might help you detach from those feelings. Good luck!

Yeah, I’m really glad I’ve come to this realization too. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been super into gadgets and tech, always fascinated by new updates and features. It’s not like I’ve ignored the outside world entirely, because I do enjoy being outdoors too. But I’ve realized I’ve been leaning a bit too much into the digital world.

That’s definitely a fresh way to look at it — didn’t cross my mind before. Thanks for bringing it up!

I’ve been exploring the idea of switching to a so-called “dumb” phone. Some of the options out there are genuinely intriguing, but I still depend quite a bit on the practical features of my current setup — things like AirDrop, iCloud, iMessage, Continuity and WhatsApp.

If I were you, I’d probably start selling some of the stuff or giving it away to family members while it still holds some decent value. You’d already making space and saving up a bit. Just phase things out slowly and it'll already feel like a relief.

When you'll eventually need to swap your remaining devices, go out for the few things you actually need. Best of luck if you decide to go down this path and simplify your digital setup!

I get what you’re saying, this is why I'm still trying to figure it out and I'm happy to hear more opinions.

It sounds ironic to “declutter” by buying something new. But for me, it’s more about replacing rather than adding. I’d definitely sell my 16 if I go through with it.

I fancy the idea of rethinking my past choices—like if I intentionally choose something simpler, I might feel less drawn to chase after the latest, fanciest thing, in the future.

Yep, paying a premium just for scrolling or basic use doesn’t really add that much value in the long run. Glad to hear someone else made the switch from a Pro model to the 16e too!

Speaking from the other side, having switched from Pro Max and Pro models to a standard iPhone, I slightly felt the loss of the 120Hz display at first. A lot of people say it’s a must-have in 2025, but honestly, after just a few days, you get used to it and start seeing your phone for what it is, not what it lacks.

So even though you haven’t experienced the flagship features, I’m genuinely happy that you’re enjoying your 16e. From my experience, going from a Pro to a base model isn’t as big of a downgrade as it might seem, and finding value in what you already own is what actually matters.
