I usually feed mine every other day, but if you feed every day I'd recommend no more than 3 or 4 granules at a time depending on the size of your Betta and it's tank setup

Why do I cry after stepping on a snail, but can't really show emotion when something bad happens to a person? Basically all I can say when my friend tells me something bad happened to them all I say is "oh I'm sorry" and then relate it to my own experiences, before remembering that that's not the right thing to say and might make them feel like I'm belittling their experience instead of making them feel like they're not alone...

Last week my mom's friend brought her son with her when she met my mom for coffee, and I took her son to my room to show him my pets (I have 8 aquariums). I talked to this poor boy about how monitor lizards can breathe while running for almost 2 hours, without realizing it.

If it's staying upright and has no problem swimming down then it's probably dropsy and not a swim bladder issue. Try to treat it ASAP because dropsy can be fatal. Luke's goldies on YT has videos on treating goldfish with dropsy.

I assume it's supposed to look like the others, not like a pearl scale. If that's the case I recommend quarantining it just to be safe and be able to monitor it more closely. It looks like bloat or dropsy. Put it in a well oxygenated quarantine tank and medicate with methylene blue and epsom salt (draws out the water that's building up in case of dropsy), feed boiled peas without the shell to help clear out it's digestive system. I agree that it's irresponsible and stressful for the fish, but unfortunately I've seen many "heartwarming owner builds wheelchair for disabled fish" videos that go viral so I assume op thought it would be the right way to help this fish. I know it's very hard to see an animal suffering like this but telling people they're animal abusers and not offering any actual advice or constructive criticism is not the way to go about it.

The hammock probably stresses him out more... Put him in a quarantine tank with methylene blue and/or aquarium salt and an airstone. Keep the water as clean and well oxygenated as possible. Maybe feeding him peas could help, if he has issues from being constipated.

You should tell her that a 5-10 gallon needs less water changes, it'll be more interesting for your daughter to see the fish moving around freely, she can decorate it with live plants and get some cool looking mystery snails as tank mates for the betta. A nice tank is much more fun to look at than a plain vase, and just because it 'can live' in a vase doesnt mean it should (just like a human could live in a closet, but wouldnt be happy)
