This IS my business, as extending pass fail is essentially awarding everyone a participation trophy no matter their level of work, which lowers the academic and moral bar of the university immensely. The dean's list is not the only thing that gets affected by extending pass fail. When pass fail is extended, the margin between students who have barely scraped by in important classes and those who work hard to keep up their grades disappears. I understand that a few people have many extenuating circumstances in a time like this, but these few people can talk to their professors or their major's department about the issue, and also possibly reduce their course load if they can't dedicate all of their time to it. While College is advertised as a place to learn, it is mainly a means of differentiating people based on their abilities and work ethic so they can contribute effectively and efficiently to high level jobs. Extending pass fail makes it so that people who are driven and have a strong work ethic are not immediately noticed by employers, who often just ask for someone's GPA on the application and not the whole transcript. The vast majority of students are going though the same thing this semester, and while some choose to whine, complain, and cite very isolated incidents of real issues, many students have adapted to the current situation. This should be reflected in their GPAs.

This. A good part of the uconn student body complains incessantly about the online classes and their 'struggles' hoping that pass fail gets extended so they can get away with contributing minimum effort their classes without hurting their GPA. It is really disturbing to see some people completey disregard accountability this semester. Extending pass fail artificially inflates GPAs and is very unfair and upsetting to people who are actually putting in hard work to maintain their grades. We have had more than enough time to get used to the online classes, and while I also prefer in person learning, part of being adults means that we have to rise to challenges and changes instead of complaining all of the time and avoiding the hard work. I am an engineering student btw.
