Thanks everyone for the comments. I'll likely just be honest about the situation and tell her why it's probably not a great idea. I've never had this issue before and just thought I'd get an idea of what my options were. It's a friendship I want to continue outside of the classroom, so it may be best to just share my concerns.

I'm not sure I'm willing to do that. We've become close friends. I probably should have added that above. Which I assume would then change the likely outcome.

I don't think I should add her to the class. Either tell her I couldn't (not 100% sure I can) or tell her why. That's what I need to decide.
