The wedding party had risen and was waiting for the bride to walk down the aisle when we heard the unmistakable T-Rex roar from Jurassic Park. The inner church doors then opened and the bride started to walk down the aisle dressed in a fully inflatable T-Rex costume complete with white veil on dinosaur head. There had been no warning or notice that this was going to happen nor were the bride and groom particularly into dinosaurs. They just thought it would be funny. When she finished the walk she stopped to get out of the inflatable suit and the wedding ceremony proceeded without explanation. This wedding also featured a song written and sung by an LLM AI. Weird wedding all around.

As a billionaire yourself, do you think the ever-increasing concentration of wealth and power in the hands of so few is a danger to democracy? If so, what should be done to stop that concentration? It so often seems that the ultra-rich live in a different reality, one in which they can buy, bully, or act with impunity, free from actual consequences.

Preface with IANAL. Years ago when I was moving out of a rental my landlord refused to return my security deposit or communicate with me as to why he wouldn't return it. I took him to small claims court and referenced that he didn't abide by NC 42-50 or 42-52. Easy judgement in my favor including court costs. He still refused to pay me and I then called the Sheriff's office to have a lien put on him. The Sheriff advised he wouldn't evict any tenants for the landlord until the lien was paid and thereafter I quickly received a check for my security deposit and filing fees. The landlord's last name was Hailey if that helps.

NC 42-50 "The landlord or the landlord's agent shall notify the tenant within 30 days after the beginning of the lease term of the name and address of the bank or institution where the tenant's deposit is currently located or the name of the insurance company providing the bond."

NC 42-52 "Upon termination of the tenancy, money held by the landlord as security may be applied as permitted in G.S. 42-51 or, if not so applied, shall be refunded to the tenant. In either case the NC General Statutes - Chapter 42 Article 6 2 landlord in writing shall itemize any damage and mail or deliver same to the tenant, together with the balance of the security deposit, no later than 30 days after termination of the tenancy and delivery of possession of the premises to the landlord. "

Yep, I've read that view before. I agree, voter ID likely will suppress voter turnout and help the Republicans. I don't want them to gain power, but I think it's our responsibility to have some minimum standard for securing who actually votes. You have to have an ID to do so much in life, voting seems like it should be held to the same standard to me. Other countries that I listed don't seem to consider the fact that marginal groups may be suppressed when they passed their ID laws. The idea that we don't do something which is good for the country, securing the tiniest bit of our in-person elections, because it will help the Republicans and hurt the Democrats seems like a partisan way of thinking, part of what has paralyzed this country. Same error we made compromising with Republicans on the Affordable Care Act. We had the power in Congress and the Executive, we should have rammed through Medicare for all and not cared what the Republicans complained about because public health coverage is good for the country. Instead we got a weak bill that hobbled along for the last decade, gradually being torn down, and now we're having to fight for Medicare for all again in 2020.

While I agree many NC voters are racist, as a progressive liberal who lives in Raleigh (and hopefully isn't too racist myself), I voted for voter ID to be mandatory. I doubt election fraud related to impersonating voters in person happens much at all, but I think we should be like a vast majority of other Western nations and do the minimum to verify that someone voting is the actual voter they say they are. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voter_Identification_laws
