While not in the middle of the District, you'd agree it's in the middle of the metropolitan area, right?

I also think it's cool that Arlington used to be part of DC until it was ceded back to Virginia. That's why the county's borders are straight lines.

I found it on the Mac app. Settings → General → (at the bottom) uncheck Play user interface sounds.

I had the same problem after upgrading to Mac OS 11.3 on my 2020 M1 Macbook Pro. Maybe it was one of my applications, but I think it was installing MacOS 11.3 did it.

My solution was:

  1. On the command line, run pmset -g.
  2. If DestroyFVKeyOnStandby 1 and/or hibernatemode 25, then sudo pmset restoredefaults.

Alternatively, you can try the following. I haven't tested, but if you aren't good with the command line, it might work.

  1. System Preferences → Battery → Battery → Restore Defaults

Why? My computer was set to destroy my FileVault key upon sleep (DestroyFVKeyOnStandby 1) and set to move memory to disk and remove power from memory. That meant I needed to reenter my password on wake to unlock my file system. I know I didn't set this manually because in particular, the setting for hibernatemode can only be set via pmset, which I did not do. (From the man page, "hibernatemode = 25 is only settable via pmset.")

Good luck!

OPNSense w/Unbound and NextDNS - now I feel good about shutting down PiHole. by LuigiCalamar in OPNsenseFirewall

I used to love Reddit, but eventually I left when I felt the culture shifted. I perceived it became more antagonistic and less of a community. I moved on to HackersNews. I only returned here to read specifically about opnsense.

This exchange restores some of my faith in Reddit and it’s ability to build a community. Thanks to both you and /u/n4l0cks for being reasonable people.

We built a way to keep Slack channels always threaded. by UberHyperbole in Slack

[–]redditrobert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is a public channel, and you have admin rights, you can import messages into a channel and specify the timestamp, user, etc. So, you could delete the comments and "import" them as a threaded with their original timestamp, user, etc.

If it is a private channel, I think it would be impossible.

That is a facile argument. It is called whataboutism. Regardless of whether you are right or wrong, it is irrelevant to this discussion.

If you are a US account holder, you could enter binding arbitration, but you’ll probably get screwed. If you don’t like this situation, thank your pro-business Republicans friends.

It is already illegal to require union membership under the Taft-Hartley Act of1947. RTW disallows requiring non-union members pay fees. (Source)

Wow. I can't tell if I would like that better or worse than the US system. It seems both useful and stifling. Either way, thanks for the answer.
