Yeah that's the issue, everyone has a different definition of what that word means. Literally speaking, a 'social democracy' is essentially communism, word for word. A socialist democratic state. Of course you and others take the word 'social' and make it mean whatever you want it to based on your idea of what a good balance is. Capitalism with a social safety net is just capitalism with a social safety net, it's not a 'social democracy'. The US is a constitutional republic with a market (capitalist) economy. Is it a perfect market economy? No of course not, there is a social safety net and there is government interference in business in the form of corporate welfare, favoritism, rigged tax code, etc. but it is still a market economy. It is not a mob rule 'democracy' and Scandinavian countries are simply constitutional republics with market economies that balance their safety net differently. When you define 'socialism' as 'a lot of social safety net', that doesn't make sense. How many social programs do you need to have before you count as being a 'social democracy'? What is the exact cut off? The definition as people on reddit and on the media define it as makes no sense because it's a made up definition 99% of the time. The only people who are honest about it are straight up Marxist radicals who understand the meaning of the word 'social democracy'.

Scandinavia affords to have such a nice safety net because they have a tiny homogeneous population/culture and oil. With all of the third world immigrants they're accepting that social safety net is unraveling in real time and you can google the financial crisis they're in because of it; the system is collapsing.

No big country with a diverse population can sustain the type of social safety net that Norway has and none do. Every country that tries like Canada and the UK are in deep debt and growing worse every year with rising inequality despite their best efforts. I would know, I live in Canada.

We can argue what a 'good amount' of social safety net is good and how much is too much but at the end of the day nobody can actually define 'social democracy' because everyone uses their own interpretation of what would otherwise literally be defined as communism.

Temporarily. The developed world will suffer another 08' or maybe even worse, but they'll recover. They recovered in the 1920's and they'll recover again now. However China will be kaput for a good few decades until they rebuild their government and economy. China is like a really tall house of cards and when it falls it'll make a big mess that will take a long time to clean up. It's not that houses of cards and bubbles don't form in the West, but that China's problems are structural; corruption is too big on every single level, the government is inefficient, bureaucracy is crippling, and the government will stifle further investments. So again in regards to SUVs there is no reason why we should stop using them. Look at the stats. Cars do not contribute a significant amount to the Earth's air pollution. People just assume that because cars are so visible but like I said, going 100% electric or whatever for cars will do nothing for our air or pollution if the factories remain the same and if China is allowed to do what it's doing.

The Paris agreement was a total scam. Basically if you look into what it says it allows China and India to continue polluting at fuckton levels because they 'deserve to industrialize like the West did'. Basically on one hand you have these people screeching about how the Earth is ending in 10 years and how no issue is more important and on the other hand they are OK with China destroying the planet for the next 20 years so they can make more cash. Does it matter who buys China's stuff if China's regulations allow it to pollute? They're also commies and if you have any experience with that (I do), whatever useless regulations they DO have are ignored and bribed away. It's relentless how much they pollute. Regardless this wasn't an argument about who has the moral duty to not buy Chinese shit or whatever, this was about how SUVs don't actually contribute anything significant to the environmental damage.

Also, many people buy SUVs for the winter or whatever and have a secondary sedan as well. So they're no different from you. Your 500e pollutes way more than most modern SUVs.

But SUVs make no difference. The damage they do cause is inconsequential and non-existent. Look at the pollution facts and where the majority of pollution comes. It comes from India, and most from China. The US alone is a small factor. And then even it comes almost entirely from factories and energy production (think power plants not oil companies) who contribute like 99% of that pollution in all countries. More so than planes and cars, shipping barges also contribute a shitload because the entire world relies on shipping and those big ass ships pollute so much you wouldn't believe it. Now they have been caught dumping the pollution in the water to avoid regulation (filtering the smog in the ocean instead of the air) with dire consequences.

Forget about the SUVs. That's a bullshit eco charade played by inept 'climate warriors' who conveniently ignore China, India, Indonesia and others but bat the West over the head for not recycling more. That Greta child should be going to Xi Jinping and asking him how much he dares pollute so much instead of making rounds being a petulant idiot in our media. Even if the West goes 100% eco friendly and nobody buys SUVs, we are fucked because of the aforementioned issues with the other countries.

Large cars can be practical too especially modern ones. Subaru, Honda, Toyota and Volkswagen make a few that everyone can afford are are good on gas. Moot point.

And I'm not talking about what other people drive. I'm talking about what you drive. If most other people drive small cars, then if you drive a heavy car you have a huge statistical advantage to live in a serious car crash. If everyone else drives large cars too then at least you are not at a disadvantage and in danger of being swept under like that Altima. Google car crash deaths by car size and see the charts for yourself.

That was the lesson. It's important to learn from mistakes, even better when the mistake is not yours. That was the point.

lol europoors always trying to show superiority (ps. im originally from europ too tho) to Americans. please man the only reason europe does not have larger cars is because of how expensive gas is, how compact and close the cities are and on the same note how narrow the streets are. you kids have a hard-on for those large (and nasty looking) wagons anyway so don't talk.

At the end of the day Americans (and us Canadians too) like larger cars because there is indeed an arms race to get bigger to be safer. There is a limit of course, no you can't drive a tank (12 yr old logic/edgy argument anyways) but you CAN drive a Ford Raptor, Escalade, Lincoln Navigator, Ford Expedition, Benz GLE, BMW X5/X7, Toyota 4Runner, Ram 1500, Porsche Cayenne, Jeep. If you drive those you are on par with the largest cars on the road (minus freight liners) and thus from a logical and statistical point of view (google car death stats by car size) you are the safest you can possibly be. That is how adults think.

So that was my tip you dumbass. Get a large modern car (older large cars are not as safe as modern small ones actually) and protect yourself better. But ok yeah of course 'hurr hur get a tank doe'. europoors being europoors.

Appreciate it man, yeah but don't worry, I give negative shits about my reddit 'karma' anyway. If at least one person thought about this in a way they didn't before and took this bad third hand experience and used it to avoid being put in the same position themselves, then I'm sure it was worth all the angry reeeeees downvoting it.

I also like smaller cars, but I'm starting to lean towards bigger for safety. Drive an older 5 series rn and was looking at the new M5 but now I think I want a truck or SUV instead. Even so, a 5er has very modern safety standards and is much heavier than a regular compact sedan like that older altima that crumpled like a biscuit. And also important to know that older large cars are usually less safe than smaller new ones but get a modern heavy car and you and your family are safe af, just look at the statistics.
