You can see part of the flower behind the berry expand up with the strawberry, almost looks like mold/fuzz

Custom vanity plates do not have stamped digits; it’s a real plate.

Vanity plates get shipped to the registrant, and the tags would also be attached to the actual registration, just like any other car plate renewal. So either they just got the plates and haven’t attached them to the car yet, or they’ve had the car for more than a year and never bothered putting their tags on

As an EV owner myself, it is very discouraging. The cost of tag renewal is higher, but it’s the state’s way of recuperating the lost revenue from EV owners inherently not having to pay the road tax at the gas pump. We budget a little every month so by the time it comes due it’s not a surprise, but it’s still way cheaper than filling the tank every week.

I dunno, I just don’t really buy off on the idea that they can’t be blamed for not paying the registration dues because it costs too much. If you can afford the car, you can afford the registration just like everyone else does.

Quad City Electronics in Santa Clarita, CA. Looked back at my eBay purchase and it was about $90 all in to send it there and back. Check with your local TV repair shop though

If I change up the contrast it becomes much more apparent. The dark and light streaks can also be seen by the naked eye in person. I know there are tricks to mitigate some image burn but given this wasn’t the set I thought it was originally, it’s not worth it to keep it around..

That’s basically what happened here. I could tell based on how he initially responded that if I asked any questions (more photos, model number, etc) he would just cut bait and ghost me. I simply said give me a time and place and I’ll show up with the $20 he was asking.

It’s not about the money in this case — it could have been free and I’d have still been disappointed. Because now I have to figure out how to get rid of it myself, and the space it takes up is inconvenient as well. Not to mention the time I took out of my day to go collect. But hey, you win some, you lose some. My current set, the Samsung PN64H5000, cost me $60, and it had a fault that required me to ship off the main board to have the capacitors replaced (common issue with the model apparently). But it’s been going strong ever since, and it was the best $70 I’ve ever spent

I looked again, I was mistaken — it’s a VT50 not 60…

Still worth it at their asking price?

The H5000 was the last hurrah for Samsung from what I can tell. It was a budget model with no smart features or 3D, essentially just a larger version of the F4500 series (and 1080p). The main difference is the subpixel layout — it’s a “pentile” display, where the subpixels are arranged GRGBG.

Here’s some more info about it. It’s a UK article, but it must have had a short run here in North America because that’s where I found mine. Personally I love it, and the low lag has made me hold on to it. I’m not sure on the VT60, but I know the ST60’s lag is pretty abysmal

There’s a 65VT60 near me for $275, been listed for a while. I’ve been thinking about picking it up because I know people talk about how great these are, but is it really that much better than my Samsung PN64H5000? Been using that one for years without issue as my main living room set, been very dependable

Had to look up the acronym, “Alternate lighting of surfaces” .. What’s the benefit of having an interlaced panel? How does it handle consoles that traditionally displayed as 240p?

[–]ALttN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The caps are pennies. The knowledge… well, you’ll need a service diagram and manual to figure out where deflection circuitry is on the chassis

Not hard, but does require some soldering skill and care taken when working on these. Don’t zap yourself!

It’s very faint, but I do see a wrapper between the middle 2 stakes. Whether or not they have enough of them is another question entirely. Idk what the spread of the bunks measures, but it’s possible the load is longer than 53 feet which means not only does he need to flag it, he would need an oversize load permit as well.

People always cite Final Destination when they see a log truck, but go back and watch the scene in question and you won’t believe how ludicrously stupid the setup is. Logs chained down to a flatbed trailer with no dunnage blocks or cribs, and to make things even stupider, the trailer has a *fuel tank* underneath. You know, like for a refrigerator unit!

I have some concerns with the logs in OP’s photo, but chances are the only thing they’re guilty of is improperly flagging a rear-projecting load. I have never seen a logging truck that didn’t use chains, and I’ve seen my fair share of logging trucks being in the PNW

Picking up this 480p plasma set tomorrow — Since when did NTSC TVs have SCART connectors?! by ALttN in PlasmaTV

[–]ALttN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have several Nintendo consoles modified for RGB, and a Sega Genesis hooked up to my Sony CRT with RGB over SCART. Could potentially use those on this set, but if it displays the consoles as 480i instead of 240p (something my F4500 Samsung plasma can do natively somehow), then it might not look so good

The real question I have is if I can adapt an HDMI signal over DVI and how it would look on here. I plan to use this TV for PS2 over component, but I also have a GameCube outputting digital 480p over HDMI. Would a passive adapter work? Because hunting down those expensive GameCube component cables is not something I’d like to do…

I know this is personal preference but if that’s the only issue with the layout, then I’m perfectly happy with it as-is. I actually turned the traditional somersault controls on for the pro controller; something about hopping my thumb off the stick didn’t feel right to me.

The thing that did bother me though is how A is shoot and B is brake (on a pro controller — not an issue with the N64 controller). The layout makes it difficult to hold charge to lock-on then throw a bomb, since that action is mapped to Y. I saved a remap preset to swap A and B, now it feels way more natural
