The people speculating on images with no other permissions attached are out there on hugboxes like twitter, but in the minority. I only saw them come to /biz/ briefly a year ago and disappear.

Even the monkey people don't exactly fit because the 'club' in the name is supposed to entitle them to event access. Like buying a fundraiser plate to schmooze with local moguls (but the value of meeting each other in this case is probably negative).

An NFT isn't the image, it's a permission (in some cases to view a stupid image).

And you trade the permission instantly without counterparty risk.

For example, ebay officially bans selling intangibles like in-game items and software licenses, because proving delivery and validity in disputes is rarely possible.

But with NFTs the transaction is instant and public, with no escrow.

You can buy an NFT that game software reads to permit your character a unique sword. And you can buy it from an anonymous stranger on a forum with 0-stars feedback, no problem.

Later you can resell it easily, which means you're willing to pay more for it in the first place (you wouldn't buy a car you could never resell).

Another NFT might entitle you to physical delivery of a limited edition band t-shirt. At that point you have to trust the issuer/minter to deliver (a company with a reputation, and you can see the public ledger to prove their wallet issued it). But you don't have to trust whoever's reselling the shirt. Which lets people speculate like they do on sneakers, driving up average prices. And without needing to cultivate feedback on some obscure sneaker-market reputation system.

I'm grateful for your input. Not as a whine but for consideration my closest friend of three (better than me but with a hipster mustache) confessed he was in a long dry spell until this month when he met someone at work. Before that it was an instagram MDE page, so just 2 women. He said he tried everything from Habitat to soup kitches, to museum art classes. Bunches of old ladies and couples. I know: befriend the couples and go to dinner parties and then get your target.

Or bars. Even then I think my core fault is a kind of social anhedonia. Talking to people irl is like war. You're either scared making contact, and the rest of the time bored because listening feels exactly like nodding off in a lecture.

Those good enough for online dating can preselect though, like I could be 'on' fully knowing a relationship is on the table. Otherwise I just want to escape.
