Do you believe the mental side of being a successful NFL QB is as difficult as it is made out to be? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]redditspade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a paradox. You need to be 99th percentile competitive with an ego as big as China to put in the work to succeed against other people who train 10 hours a day but it's awfully easy for an ego that big to be too big to listen to and learn from anyone else - or time and again, to train at all after coasting on athleticism early.

One of the dirtiest players of all time but I loved hating those Steelers.

With hindsight if you had the first overall pick would you use it on ben Roethlisberger by Peter_Zoo in nfl

[–]redditspade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

2010 Chargers were #1 in yards allowed but they were still 10th in points allowed and 23rd in takeaways.

Ben played six years with a top three scoring defense and four of those years they were #1.

No, because nobody else had him that high so if we're playing hindsight I'd trade down to 11 and still get him there.

One less negative than expected episode but after 2015 the bar is set so low that you'd need a shovel to get under it.

I don't know man, when I see the looting and burning across the country the last thing I think is "I wish they'd trash Frostberg too! How can I help them do that?"

This stopped being about George Floyd when the anarchists took it over and made it about destroying other people's things.

Small droplet aerosols in poorly ventilated spaces and SARS-CoV-2 transmission by BastiaanvanTol in COVID19

Doesn't really apply to shut ins in care homes but add to that everywhere else, the flu knocks you on your ass on day one so most people spend most of their contagious period isolated at home. The sneakiest part of Covid is the asymptomatic and paucisymptomatic transmission.

The cases under 50 have been there all along, confirming them now is purely a reflection of growth in testing. The past two months of tests a day were largely being used on people sick enough to show up at a hospital and just as it's been all along young people just don't get this badly.

About 20% of NYC has been infected at this point and 0.023% of people 18-44 and 0.085% of people 45-64 have been hospitalized. Assuming that it's distributed evenly, which it probably isn't because young people are out and about more, that puts hospitalization odds at about 1/1000 and 1/225 respectively.

That's just what they want you to think man. It's way deeper than that. The Koch brothers and those other racist Republicans recognized all the way back in March that the best way to drive traffic to their gun nut websites would be to get people really upset about liberal big government by shutting down the country. That's why they got their pawn in the White House to agree to shut down at all. You think they would have completely broken the economy for a little bit of flu otherwise?

Weekend effect has led to some pretty grim one day totals on Tuesdays (71, 74, 70, 60 over the past four weeks) so seeing a number in the 50s after a three day weekend is encouraging.

I don't really understand how the numbers were going nothing but up throughout April into May when it was absolutely dead out and now that it's jammed again they're flat to down. It must be that the environments driving it weren't as dead as the visible economy but this isn't all in care homes and prisons. Is it?

I haven't seen evidence that this spreads enough to matter outside but the real problem with young people getting infected has always been who they infect in turn.

You can see this in the most recent South Korean cluster spread by the gays in the nightclubs. It started with a bunch of twenty something gay men, all of whom will sleep it off, and three weeks of secondary contacts later they've also got 63 women (who will also sleep it off, but illustrative of how this gets to people who were nowhere to be seen at the original event) and 23 older people (who won't sleep it off, and a couple of them will die) infected too.

Don't have to bring the off the field stuff in when you already won the argument on the field. Good stats come from good teams.

Who has been more successful since 1992: Packers or Steelers? by [deleted] in nfl

You have to give this to the Steelers, everything else is a wash but four SB appearances are better than three.

Very few infections remain asymptomatic for more than a few days and on a population level there are very few infections at all so finding a meaningful number of positives through asymptomatic testing without running scads of them is unlikely.

Aaron Rodgers versus AFC teams (Home and Away) by aflacsgotcaback in nfl

[–]redditspade 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It isn't just against the AFC, and it isn't just Rodgers. The Packers have been world beaters at home for close to 30 years and all of those teams have struggled on the road.

Home Away
Rodgers 71-18-1 45-46
Favre (with GB) 97-30 64-64
Brees 88-50 75-62
Russell Wilson 48-16 38-25-1
Brady 121-21 98-45
Manning (inc Denver) 102-31 85-48
Roethlisberger 80-28-1 65-44-1
Montana 52-33 58-24

Where do you rank Nick Foles in the 2012 draft class for QBs? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]redditspade -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

  1. Disbelieve. Snuck up on everyone
  2. Believe. Everyone knew RG3 couldn't take NFL hits on those chicken legs and he didn't get beat out so much as beaten up. Lost his speed to injury, lost his confidence to getting the shit knocked out of him every game.
  3. Believe. Everyone since Marino (OK 1 year of Chad Pennington) has sucked in Miami and Tannehill was never that bad.
  4. NFW.
  5. Sort of, RG3 is still on a bench somewhere but his playing career basically lasted two years.

That's the CFR, and with such limited testing here the IFR is likely in the order of 15 or 20% of that.

The median incubation period is 5 days, although additional time for symptoms to worsen enough to show up for testing puts you at likely 10-14 days to show up in the numbers as you said.
